Strong-willed and opinionated, Kameelah pulled a 4.5 GPA in high school and is now a sophomore at Stanford University. She's going to be the first person in her family to graduate from college, and is not afraid to speak her mind. In fact, she says she prefers guys "who know when to kiss my ass". Her name suits her attitude: "Kameelah" means "perfect."
During her
application process
she revealed that her mother was shot by her father in a dispute. Her mother survived but her stepfather went to jail.
Kameelah was forced to develop an inner strength early on; her stepfather was abusive, and shot her mother in front of her. Her mother survived, and Kameelah's step-dad went to prison; alone, she and her mother had a tough time. They were homeless for some time, and struggled for years to make ends meet. Her mother's second marriage, though not so violent, was also bad, and Kameelah admits, "I have no concept of how man and wife relate except through violence."
Through it all, Kameelah has kept a healthy perspective: "Even though I could have done without the stress, I'm grateful it's made me extraordinarily strong."
I got the following information off of Kameelah's sorority's homepage
Kameelah is from San Diego, California. She was born September 20, 1977. Kameelah is a human biology major with an interest in women's health and reproduction and Latin America. She loves to travel and experience new adventures. She treasures good friends, music, and flowers. Kameelah hopes to attend medical school and practice in the third world countries.
Described as "a strong-willed, collegiate black woman." She has her tongue pierced because she thinks it looks sexy. She is a science major at Stanford University.
Why I love Kameelah:
Kameelah is my second favorite Real World cast member behind Tami. I loved that she was highly intelligent. I think that she will be very misunderstood by most people who view the show but for some reason I really connected with her. She kept it REAL the entire time she was in the house. She wasn't so strict on her beliefs and her views that she didn't try to expand her views. By this I mean at the beginning she said she didn't like it when black men dated white women but by the end of the show she had a little crush on Jason a white guy. Some people might think this was hypocritical but I think she just evolved. She was RIGHT ON about Montana (a true hypocrite) and Sean ( a trouble maker) I'm glad she didn't let their negativity affect her performance at the children's center.I was really proud that Kameelah was very genuinely helpful at the center. I also could relate to the list Kameelah created of what she wants in a man.
What irked me about Kameelah:
On the first few episodes of the Real World Boston Kameelah seemed mean. I really din't think I would like end up liking her. I said " Oh here we go again" cause she seemed like she had major attitude. As the show went on I really saw how she evolved. I didn't like how Kameelah kept grudges against people. Even though I thought Montana was a hypocrite, instigator and back biter I would have sat down and told her where I was coming from and see if we could be civil towards each other instead of leaving hating each other.
