Julie's Australian Ben Folds Five Page

© Julie 'anti-gavin' 1997. If I find out you have put this picture on your own personal website, I will be very mad!

Well I thought I better write a bit about myself for this section. Let's see, I was born in Townsville, QLD, Australia on the 11th October 1982 (which makes me 20, at least when I'm writing this..), but I wasn't there for long at all. I've lived in Melbourne, Victoria most of my life, but currently I am living in Brisbane, Queensland. (By the way, these pictures are a couple years old...) kateyisgod.jpg (45723 bytes)

I'm WAS studying at Monash University in Berwick, doing a Bachelor of Communication, but won't be finishing that until I get back to Melbourne.

jandt1.jpg (50229 bytes) Let's see, I like going to concerts, parties, shopping (when I have money) watching videos, listening to music, bumming around on the computer and basically just bludging. I spend most of my weekend with my boyfriend Travis, doing shit all. Thats about it!

Hmmn, what kind of videos do I watch are you most likely not asking? Well I can tell you some of my favourites:

- Swingers
- Casino

nedlogo.gif (2798 bytes) I seem to dwell on the past when it comes to television shows. My #1 ALL TIME FAVOURITE TV show would so have to be Ned and Stacey (Starring Thomas Haden Church as Ned, Debra Messing as Stacey and some guy who's in Ally McBeal as Ned's naive and gullible friend.) This show was only blessed with 2 fabulous seasons before it got axed so FOX TV could bring in some new shows like Just Shoot Me and Newsradio.

Other than Ben Folds Five I kind of have a huge liking towards SKA bands. Especially the worlds best ska band: SAVE FERRIS. I'm not sure whether the fact Save Ferris are quite unknown is good or bad, all I know is that it certainly hasn't brought them over to Australia yet.
But my musical tastes are not limited to Ben Folds Five and ska, here's a list of my favourite bands, songs and albums (because I feel like it, it's my page so I can do whatever I want dammit!)

I think now it's time I get into my Ben Folds Five obsession. It began when I moved to Ballarat in Year 8, well the end of Year 8 (yes I was a little girlie). My new friend Brooke told me about them and suggested I check them out. I heard Underground on Triple J shortly after, but didn't think much into it. It was when I was the Uncle Walter video on Channel [v] (back when it was Red tv) that I fell in love - they were just so....FUN!

I found the Uncle Walter CD single at my local cd store a couple of days later, then a few after that the Self Titled album. Liking them to bits came so easily, it's corny I know but I guess it was fate (hehe, just kidding). Hmmn, well my first encounter with Ben Folds Five was at Recovery (TV show on the ABC) in Melbourne in September 1997. I was so cut that I couldn't go to the two Melbourne concerts they played. Anyway there's plenty of details about meeting them at Recovery on the 'Australian Tour' page. The next time I saw BFF was in 1998 in the Melbourne concert at the Palais, and the day after at Recovery again. Then twice more at two Melbourne shows in 1999, once again at the Palais. At the end of 1999 an American Magazine SMUG announced they were going to feature me as the 'Worlds Biggest Ben Folds Five fan' in their February/March 2000 issue. This easily being the biggest and best things to happen. Anyway, I'll finish bragging now..:) click to see enlarged
