New Zealanders (Kiwi's) have a competely
different way of talking compared to Americans, Australians, the British, and practically
every other country in the world!
Sure, we speak english, but our accent is very different and we have
other names for things as you will see below.
I have put together an incomplete list of what us kiwi's call
things.....
Americans say cookies, we say biscuits.
What Americans call biscuits, we called scones (pronounced Scons)
We say Mum, not Mom
We don't celebrate Thanksgiving
What Americans call a jumper is a pinafore to us!
What we call a jumper is a sweatshirt or pullover.
We don't eat grits! (Ew!!!!!)
What Americans call a cantaloupe, we call a rockmelon.
Americans say 'new' like 'nu'! That is so weird!
We call swimsuits Swimming Togs!
What we call jelly is jello to Americans, and what we call jam is jelly to Americans.
What we call holidays are vacations to Americans.
