Rabbit Toys & the Importance of Exercise for Your Buns

Rabbits need exercise everyday. A rabbit that spends its entire life in a small cage without outside interaction is more likely to become sick, depressed, and have a shortened life. My dutch mix rabbit, Twinkle, is let out every afternoon and/or evening to roam around my room. He generally receives between 2- 7 hours of playtime a day, depending on my schedule.

Playing with your rabbit and watching him/her play outside the cage let's you see so much more of their personality than you would if your rabbit stayed in a cage 24-7. When I first had my rabbit, he only came out every once in awhile, not on a regular basis. However, since I have started a new routine- having him out to roam around and play for several hours- I have realised his true character and true pet potential.

Twinkle is sometimes a bit mischievious, but generally obeys a quiet but firm "no." Around strangers, however, he can be rather shy at first. Once he builds trust in you, he will hop towards your lap (if you're sitting on the floor) and nudge with his nose. If you're standing, he'll nip at your jeans. :) Sometimes he will "flop" or lie down in front of me, asking for a gentle rub.

Toys are very important. They help stimulate the brain, as well as provide some physical exercise. Below is a brief list of possible rabbit toys. Twinkle loves his slinky and cat condo. He will doze off in the condo, looking really cute!
