Tuesday 4th May...
Nikki rang back and as luck would have it she hadn't cut out the skirt
part of the dress!!!
Mel went shopping today and looked at some kind of cardigan/jacket for
the girls, as they are going to be freezing in the sleeveless dresses. She
found one that is purple at the bottom and gradually goes into a very
pale lilac at the top. Need to talk with Julie about it first, although
her first instinct was to *buy now*.
Wednesday 5th May...
Julie had the morning off, you guessed it...we went shopping!!! Much to
Mel's delight.
We headed to Target, this is where the cardigans are. Julie loved them
too, but they only had Raechelle's size. After much running about we
found out that Genevieve's size was at another store close by. Looks like
another stop on our list.
Today was also the day that Mel *finally* picked up Julie's wedding gift.
Mel thought that it was probably best for Julie to see the diamonds before
the wedding day. We don't want *too* many happy tears on the day... :)
Julie loved them and thinks that they will look gorgeous with the hat!!!
We have also decided to buy plain gold wedding bands that we can wear
all the time. With the work we do we really can't wear our engagement
rings. These have to be ordered in and Julie's will have to be re-sized.
Mmmmm...Now we'll have to decided which rings to use in the ceremony.
Thursday 6th May...
Mel took Julie's engagment ring in to be re-sized.
They haven't found Julie a wedding ring...yet. The womin at the jewellery
store has been great. It seems like we are in there every week!!!
Friday 7th May...
We had our 2nd fitting today!!! Raechelle came with us as she couldn't
wait to see the dresses. They look wonderful. They're pretty much
finished. Just needed to measure up the hems and sleeve lengths. Mel wants
some buttons on the bottom of the sleeves. We looked at a few different
styles and decided to go into the city to have them specially made using
the same material as her dress. Can you believe that there is someone
that covers buttons for a living???
This time our dressmaker started to ask some questions about the wedding.
She didn't actually ask who was getting married, just general questions
like where, why in the Blue Mountains etc etc. Mel didn't say much, she just
let Julie answer all the questions.
When we got into the car Mel asked the question "Do you think she knows?"
Raechelle pipes up first and says "Yeah, of course she knows!!!" Not bad for a 10
year old...*LOL*
Saturday 8th May...
We picked up Julie's engagment ring. Still nothing on the wedding bands.. :(
We also put in Julie's shoes so they can be covered in the same
material as her dress. They will be ready next Saturday.
Friday 14th May...
It was our lucky day today. We bought our wedding rings!!! Fiona managed
to get them in for us. This is our last visit to the jewellers... :(
Fiona wants us to bring in the photo's when we get back. We have to
wonder if she asks to see all the other couples wedding photos.
This is another one of the wonderful little surprises we have
encountered in the planning of the wedding... :)
We both want to have our rings engraved, but aren't sure what to write.
Mel thought she had picked out the right words, but she keeps changing
her mind...*sigh*. We're sure that we'll find the right words. At the moment
we've both decided on, "I adore you", along with the wedding date. I adore you
is a line from an Ani DiFranco song that we both love.
Saturday 15th May...
5 WEEKS TO GO!!!!
Nikki is going to finish Genevieve's dress this week-end. If she has
time she is also going to make the cake!!! The only thing left
for Nikki to do is find her perfect outfit.
Julie's sister, Sandy, is coming for a pre-wedding visit this afternoon from Sydney and
staying until Wednesday. It is lucky that we don't have our dresses at home because
she doesn't want to see them before the day.
Picked up Julie's wedding slippers, they look gorgeous!!!
Wednesday 20th May...
We went into the city this morning to pick up Sandy, whilst there we
arranged to have the buttons made for Mel's dress. They said that it
would only take 45 mins so that gave us enough time to drop Sandy
at the airport.
We got out
"The Essential Guide to Lesbian and Gay Weddings"again this afternoon.
Oh before we forget the new 1999 edition of this book is now out in
Australia!!! We have been using the wedding check list which has been
very helpful in reminding us of some of the little things.
Nikki rang today to say that the cake was in the oven...looking and
smelling wonderful. We really wanted to be together. This has been one of
the down sides for us...not being able to share everything with Nikki.
Mel is trying to get everything arranged and confirmed before we get to
Sydney, so that we can spend time with our families and friends.
Friday 21st May...
We have been constantly debating what to give to men in their
bon-bonierres. We were looking at a photo of the reception room at
Chapel Hill and the tables looked so elegant with just a place card
and the chocolates in tulle. We decided then and there that we are
ditching the bon bonierres all together. Much less stress for Mel as she
no longer has to cross-stitch 30+ letters.
We received more beautiful acceptance cards this week. One from Julie's
cousin, who we found out through Nikki that she didn't even know Julie
was gay before getting her invitation...ooops. What a lovely way to find
out!!!
Saturday 22nd May...
4 WEEKS TO GO!!!!
We are in *serious* wedding mode now. We've made the final menu decisions
and sent then off to our caterer for the ok so we can print out menus
for each place setting.
Julie has been working on the camera cards for the tables and they are
looking great.
We are now getting down to the nitty gritty....how much
alcohol, who sits where, making final dress fittings, where do we stand
in the chapel, who walks down the aisle first,
getting wedding rings engraved, adjusting the budget, saving like mad,
eating vegies for lovely skin!, re-deciding our flowers,
checking our accomadation bookings, emailing the celebrant,
writing out place setting cards, finishing off Raechelle's dress,
writing to check details about the reception/chapel,
constantly changing our minds about what music to walk down the aisle
to/walk out of the church to/waltz to/eat to,
writing lists for everyone involved, making a 'loose' timetable of the
day, updating the wedding diary online....
generally eating/living/breathing every aspect of the day!
Monday 24th May...
26 DAYS TO GO!!!!
Julie is on a late shift, but Mel for a change is not dragging her off to
the shops all morning. We are just going to get our wedding bands engraved and then
Mel is taking Julie to Yum-Cha for lunch. Watch out Mary we are going to
introduce you to Yum-Cha when you are here!!!
Mel talked to the florist tonight and told him of our final decisions.
The girls are having posies of cream roses with camellia leaves. We are
still having the irises and white lilies tied together with purple satin
ribbon. Our florist is also making the flowers for our wedding cake so
they can just be placed on the top.
When we were there in January we decided to have a large arrangement
made for the reception room, but over the last few months we've been
asking the question "What the hell are we going to do with it
afterwards?" Our car is going to be full and we won't be able to take
it with us. After much thought we've decided to cancel it.
Tuesday 25th May...
25 DAYS TO GO!!!!
We did end up spending most of the day at the shops...heehee. Julie
decided to have her wedding band made a little bit bigger. We put that
into be done yesterday, picked it up this morning, then had both rings
engraved. After much thought we decided to have our rings
engraved with the same thing....I Adore You 19/6/99.
The guy did a *great* job on the engraving, he did it in calligraphy
script which was a bonus for us.
We bought the girls some rose petal confetti today, which we are going
to put in little drawstring organza bags. We want to make it a
special day for them too.
Wednesday 26th May...
24 DAYS TO GO!!!!
Great news today!!! Mel talked to Sam, our caterer, and she knows someone
who can make a Croquembouche!!!! Julie is *soooo* excited. We had given up in trying
to find someone who would make one. Sam is going to arrange it and
pick it up on the morning of the wedding for us *huge grins all around*.
Now we have to ring our florist to re-order the gerbras...*LOL*
We are going to have our final fitting tonight!!! We'll let you know
how it all goes tomorrow.
Re-decision time...We decided on the 21st to ditch the bon bonierre boxes,
having just the chocolates tied with tulle. Well, we're back to the box thing again.
*L*
In other decision-making news, we're going to print out individual menu's (with our
matching 'two brides' logo), to be placed on each guests' plate. Mel also came up with the
brilliant idea of of printing out drink menu's for the tables.
Thursday 27th May...
23 DAYS TO GO!!!!
Mel made her head piece today. It's a circle of wire wrapped in ribbon, flowers are
attached at the back with ribbons going down her back. She's very unsure
how it is going to look with the dress. I guess we'll find out next Thursday
because that's when we pick the dresses up!!!
Sunday 30th May...
20 DAYS TO GO!!!!
We sat down this afternoon and put all the chocolates in the bon boxes,
only to discover that we are 5 short!!! We just looked at each other and
laughed. The bon boxes look great. We recycled the bride logos from the
the programs that had the wrong date on them. Behind the logo we put
a cream piece of paper so it now looks like the logo is framed. The purple
organza ribbon at the top sets it off beautifully.
All the menus got printed and trimmed up today, along with the camera
cards. We are still trying to finalize the drinks menu.
Monday 31st May...
19 DAYS TO GO!!!!
We sat in bed last night and made a list of things we to do. Like who
and when to ring people, post deposits etc etc. Make as many lists as
you can so you don't forget anything.
Julie's morning off and we all know what that means...shopping!!!
We needed to go to Spotlight to get the little organza bags for the
girl's rose petal confetti and some cardboard. Julie has thought of
making signs that will direct people to Chapel Hill. Just want to make
sure everyone gets there.
Mel rang Liquorland today and ordered the drinks. The manager assures
us that we have plenty and we won't run out. Mel was pretty close with
her estimate of $500 for the drinks bill. We'll get a final figure
when we call next week to confirm the order.
Mel also made appointments for us to have our hair coloured, streaked
etc etc. Her hairdresser is away until the 16th which has worked out
great for us.
