The Library Assistant Program at the South Lenoir High School Media Center
Library Assistant Activities and Projects
- Cataloging and circulating library materials
- Earn credit for a class by preforming daily library duties, assisting students and teachers, and learning about the daily workings of a school media center
- Participate in a story-telling project with local elementary schools
- Join the Library Club, which raises money for National Library Week activities and for the Memorial Book Collection
- Participate in field trips: This year's group of assistants went to the State Archives for a behind-the-scenes tour and for a meeting with NC Representative Carolyn Russell.
- Some assistants work at the local middle school in the computer lab as assistants, learning to load programs, clean disc, and assist students.
The South Lenoir Media Center Assistants learn to use the Follett Management System for cataloging and circulating resources. The Library Assistant Course is an elective, worth one credit, offered during the fall and spring semesters. Admission to the course is with the media coordinator's permission, based on each student's teacher recommendations. The media center could not operate as smoothely and effectively as it does without the help and expertise of the assistants.
