Let The Hawk Fly Free

Let The Hawk Fly Free

She was only sixteen, leave her alone they say....

Separated by fools who don’t know what love is yet

but I want you to know that

if I could fly

I’d pick you up

I’d take you into the night

and show you a love

like you’ve never seen, ever seen.....

The man stood in the shadows and watched as the girl walked by him.

A smile played at the corner of his lips.

She had come home and he was glad.

Here she would be safe...or at least as safe as she could be

She was resourceful and so were her friends.

She would survive...hopefully.

He watched until the girl turned the corner and faded from view.

With a sigh of regret he leaned back against the cold stone and

thought about what he must do now.

He must leave. It was the only way.

She must have time.

Time was all they had.

His heart urged him forward, but his mind bade him be still.

He had loved her since the first second he had seen her.

His Soul had recognised her and he chose not to argue with a Soul.

His Soul was an old soul and it understood the basic truths

Love comes in many forms

Caring Love, Passionate Love, Lustful Love, Tender Love

and then, the most powerful force in the Universe

Eternal Love.

Most walk through life accepting the love that they have found.

They define love by what they know.

But somewhere, deep in their Souls, they sense the wonder of Eternal Love

In their dreams and in their fantasy moments they play with the desires of Eternal Love

but in the light of day they push it aside and return to their reality of Love.

Very few find Eternal Love

In his life, he had experience all types of love

Each one had been magical and essential to his growth

but never before had he recognised Eternal Love

And here lay his dilemma. His potential for error.

She had not had time to grow. She was not ready to recognise Eternal Love.

She was a child.

It was a fact he must never allow himself to forget

To forget could bring destruction of the perfect Love.

It was the fatal error his nemesis had made.

He had rushed in

He had sought to capture Eternal Love

He had failed to recognise that Eternal Love can never be captured

The Child would grow

She would mature

She would change

She would not be held to a fantasy of Eternal Love conceived in Childhood.

The woman she would become would seek her own Eternal Love.

The man pushed himself away from the wall.

It was time to go

He had done all he could do for her

He had tried to ensure her survival in the only way he knew how

He had trained her.

He hoped it was enough. He hoped it would let her survivr.

That she would grow. That she would mature.

That she would live to experience Eternal Love.

For her species was short lived.

They died young.

He had seen many of them come and go through Time.

Eventually they all confronted an evil they could not defeat.

A powerful evil that they were not ready to meet.

....and they died.

So he had done what he could for her

He had trained her.

He was powerful. He was clever. He was quick..

He could have killed her many times

as he had killed those that came before her.

But that had not been his intention.

His intention was to make her prepared to meet the best

and survive

At each confrontation she improved

She became faster

She thought quicker

She anticipated

She learned to trust her warrior instincts

He silently rejoiced in each gain she made

and each time she made a fatal error

he would pull back, he would allow her that second to recover

he would allow her that vital second to learn

once learned, never to be forgotten.

He had given her a gift

A gift she was not aware of

A gift she did not even sense

He had given her the gift of survival.

It was all he could give her.....for now.

It was his solitary secret.

His to carry through Time.

Only once had he let his guard down

That last time they had been together

For a second he had allowed her to look into his eyes and see his Soul

She had been confused

But her Soul had recognised him

For now, she didn’t understand

But she would grow. Time would pass

and hopefully she would come to understand.

.....and Time was the one thing he had.
