Lilac Wine (Part 2)
Jennifer
Part Two: Buffy
I move quickly down the second floor hallway of Murray Hall. After waiting two hours for him last night and getting stood up, I am now ready to give him a piece of my mind and perhaps my boot. No one stands me up like that. Not after the heart wrenching, mind boggling, truth session we went through. Unless, of course, there's some serious loss of bodily functions and/or fluids.
I stop in front of the door to his office. I look at the nameplate next to it.
"Psychology-Riley Finn".
Part of me wants to rip it from the damn wall and shove it in his face. But the another part of me, a big part, gets all fuzzy just reading his name. How did this happen? Why do I get these fuzzies at the mere sight or mention of his name?
I push everything fuzzy deep inside myself and knock on the door loudly.
When I get no reply, I knock again. This time, with a bit more force and gusto. Again, no reply. I grab the knob and try to turn it only to find it's locked. I turn from the door slightly confused. I look at my watch. 10:30. These are his office hours. Where is he?
I leave Murray Hall and head towards Lowell. I don't have a good feeling about this especially
since Riley isn't one to sleep in.
I reach the house and take the stairs two at a time. I ring the bell and knock on the door. I'm getting impatient. My Slayer sense is telling me something just isn't right. And my "mess with my boyfriend and die" attitude is surfacing. And it's not like he's my boyfriend. Not yet anyway. We kissed. In the middle of a crisis, we kissed. No big deal. But I know it was a big deal. For me and for him. In a short time, I've learned that Riley does not take things such as kissing lightly.
As my knocking grows more impatient, it grows more forceful. I hear a voice inside yelling,
"Yeah, yeah, yeah! Hold on!"
The door opens and I come face to face with Forrest. I recognize him vaguely but I also know he's Riley's friend. "Is Riley here?" I ask immediately.
Confusion clouds Forrest's face. "No man. I thought he was with you."
"With me?"
"Well yeah. You had a date last night didn't you? He left here to meet you. When he didn't come back last night I figured he was with you."
"Well, he's not."
Forrest curses under his breath and then turns from the door. I follow him in the house until he turns to me as if realizing then that I was following. "Uh, why don't you go and check his office?"
"Been there."
I could almost see the wheels spinning in his head. "How about Walsh's office?"
"All right. I'll go. What are you gonna do?"
"Ask around. I'm sure he's all right. He's not exactly a child."
"Yeah right. But it's not like him to not show up home or for his job."
Forrest sighs heavily as I turn to go. "He's around. I'm sure."
"Right. I'll be back here if I don't find him."
