Michael Abe began studying Aikido in January 1985 at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Center in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada under Takashi Kimeda Sensei. Kimeda Sensei, currently 8th Degree Black Belt, is the chief instructor of Aikido Yoshinkai Canada.
Michael continued his training from 1988 to 1993 in Kofu, Japan under Takafumi Takeno Sensei. Takeno Sensei, also 8th Degree Black Belt is the former chief instructor of the Yoshinkan headquarters in Tokyo. He trained as a live-in student under Gozo Shioda, the founder of Yoshinkan Aikido for over 20 years.
Michael holds a
third Degree Black Belt in Yoshinkan Aikido and founded Aikido Yoshinkan
Victoria in April 1994.
