three day terror - part one

Chapter one

Shirley waited anxiously, just like everyone else in the room. In a minute, Ms. Strattmen would announce the winner of the Sussex draw. The winner would get 2 tickets to go to the year 2000 Olympics. Ms. Strattmen would mostly make them watch the three day team compete. But still, it was better then nothing. You could go to Austrailia, for free.

When Ms. Strattmen reached into the hat to pull two names out of a hat, the whole room was deathly still. You could have heard a pin drop. Shirley waited breathlessly as Strattmen opened one piece of paper, then another.

"Before I read the names of the two people that won. I would like you to remember that the person you choose to bring must be a student at Sussex. If you win, you and that person will have to bunk together. Absolutely no gender mixing allowed. Now, I am proud to announce the winners, Bo Sawchuck, and Alicia Gianelli, please come forward."

Shirley shot a look at Bo and Alicia. They were both pale, and shocked. After they had gained their composure, they both went up to recieve the prize. Shirley was happy for both of them, yet, she couldn't help feeling disappointed.

As Shirley walked out of the assembly room, she saw Bo speak to Bart for a second. From the way Bart smiled, she knew what that was about. Bo was asking Bart to be his guest. She definitly didn't have any hope, Alicia would probably ask Molly. "Hey Shirley!" Shirley turned around and saw that Bo was bounding towards her. "I asked Bart to be my guest, but you know, if I didn't have to bunk with my guest, I would have asked you. imagine what your parent's would say if we bunked together!" Bo said sympathatically. Despite everything, Shirley had to smile, she could imagine what her mom would say. Her mom would throw a big fit. "Yeah, I know what you mean, but it's okay....." Shirley trailed off. Bo and Shirley were silent for a moment. "But I wish you could go Shirl, really." Bo said softly.

"I know, but things can't be helped." Shirley smiled, then said, "How do I know that you didn't rig the draw?" Shirley ducked to avoid being hit. Her mood brightened just a bit, both Bo and Shirley wore solemn expressions though. "Hey! What's wrong guys?" Alicia asked happily as she walked towards them. "Ummm, nothing Alicia." Shirley said.

"Well, if it makes you feel any better, I wanted to ask if you wanted to be my guest." Alicia said with a smile. Shirley starred at Alicia, momentarily shocked. "Thank you so much Alicia!!!" Shirley hugged Alicia, and went out the door. Alicia raised her eyebrow, "I take that as a yes?"

"guess so." Bo answered.

A week later

"Where is Strattmen?" Shirley asked. She juggled two huged suitcases, she still couldn't believe that Alicia was an even HEAVIER packer then she was. (Shirley bought her detective equipment) "I don't know, maybe she's having car trouble." Bart answered.

"I really doubt it, but it's possible." Bo said.

Alicia was in bewilderment. "How can you guys be such light packers? I brought three suitcases!"

"That's how girls are." Bo said teasingly.

"Look, there's Strattmen!" Bart said, "Let's hit the road."

"I think you mean the plane." Bo said.

"Whatever." Alicia muttered.
