The phone is what woke Camille early the next morning. “Hello” She answered it with a yawn.
“Hi Cami” AJ’s familiar voice called to her.
“Oh Hey” She said as she stretched.
“Did I wake you?” He asked.
“Yeah Kinda. But I ain’t mad I had to get up anyway.” Camille replied.
“Why?” AJ asked.
“Nothing important I just have to go see a doctor.” She told him.
“Anything wrong?” He asked his voice full of concern.
“Nothing out of the ordinary.” Camille told him knowing full well that it was out of the ordinary why she always had to go to doctors appointments.
“Are you sure? It is just you always have doctors appointments. Oh I get it your avoiding me. That is why you never call me or want to go out for a walk or drive with me. Fine I get your drift.” He said
“NO AJ it isn’t you. Fine come with me to the doctors today and then I will come for a drive with you.” Camille said desperate to keep AJ on the phone.
“Fine what time is your appointment?” AJ asked his voice full of happiness.
“12:30” She replied regretting that she had ever invited AJ to come with her. Knowing that he may never speak to her again when he found out about her secret.
“So I will meet you at your place at noon then?” He asked her.
“Yes Noon” Camille replied.
“Okay then Bye Cami” He said.
“Bye AJ” She said as she hung up the phone. She sighed and pulled herself out of bed. Her mind began to spin and she sat back down again. Oh lord please don’t let me black out she silently prayed. Slowly her mind cleared and she was able to stand again. She moved slowly as if in a trace but truth being her body ached. She collected her clothing and walked to the bathroom. She passed Kayla on her way. Kayla noticed her friends slow movements.
“Are you all right?” Kayla asked looking up at her friend.
“Just fine Kay” Camille answered as she entered the bathroom and quietly shut the door behind her. After she locked the door, Camille nearly burst into tears. Pain came in waves as she moved. She was so tired. Deciding to take a warm shower and get ready for the day, she turned on the water.
The warm water flowed over her body as she stepped under the shower head. The water seemed to jump start her aching body. After her shower she got into a pair of jeans and a white T-shirt. She left the bathroom and went to her room, where she sat down on her bed and thought.
Well what is the worst thing that could happen? He could never talk to you again Camille. Well if he does that then he was never worth it right? Camille thought as she contemplated on whether or not she should tell AJ about her secret.
The doorbell rang and interrupted her thoughts. She opened the door to find AJ standing there with a single rose in his hand. She smiled sweetly.
“I thought I would come early and we could go out for brunch that is if you haven’t eaten already.” AJ said.
“I can’t. I can’t eat anything I have a test to go do but I will come and watch you eat if you like.” She offered.
“No, I will wait to eat then.” AJ said.
“Are you sure?” Camille said eyeing him.
“Yeah. So how about a drive then?” He asked her.
“Sure just let me get my keys.” She said as she grabbed her purse from the table and looked around for her keys. She spotted them on the table and quickly grabbed them.
“Shall we?” AJ asked as he offered her his hand.
“I believe we shall” Camille said with a giggle.
“OH before I forget this is for you” He said as he handed her the rose.
“Oh it is so sweet of you to do that!” Camille said with a wonderfully happy smile. Quickly she filled a small vase with water and placed the rose in it. She shut the front door.
AJ held out his hand to her “Camille is something wrong you look pale.” He asked her obviously concerned for her.
“You will find out soon enough AJ” Camille said.
“Your okay enough though right?” He asked her.
“Yes, now can we go?” she asked rather impatiently. He began to walk with her hand in his.
They got into AJ’s Porsche and drove off. The music from Andrew Lloyd Webbers The Phantom Of The Opera blared from the speakers. When AJ began to sing along with the words, Camille felt comfortable enough to join in. She knew almost all the words by heart and amazed AJ with that as she sang along with Sarah Brightman in ‘Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again’
AJ pulled over and stared at her. She sang beautifully without missing a note or a word. When she realized she was being watched she shut her mouth, and began to blush. AJ switched off the stereo and said three simple words.
