“Sing for me” AJ said. Slowly, Camille began to sing It Matters To Me a song that had won her first prize in the talent show at her school earlier that year.
“...When we don’t talk, When we don’t touch, When it doesn’t feel like we’re even in love...” Camille sang sweetly as AJ watched her. Camille’s eyes burned into his as she sang the song. Her eyes seemed to be filled with pain making AJ feel every word.
“Oh It Matters to Me....” She brought the song to a sweet end.
AJ reached over taking her hand and saying “Your a very talented singer. That is one heck of a voice you have”
“Thank you AJ” She replied looking at the floor.
“Look at me Camille. I want to see your face” He said. She turned her head and looked him in the eye. The world buzzed around her but she was unaware of it as AJ brought his lips to hers in a tender kiss.
When they parted, he looked into her eyes and said “Please tell me why you always have doctors appointments”
Sighing, she decided to confide in him. “I have Leukemia” she said as she turned away from AJ not wanting to see his reaction.
Leukemia the word repeated itself over and over in his mind as a dreadful hurt poured into his heart. “Cami” he choked out “Cami how? Why?”
“I don’t know why! No one can explain to me how so don’t ask me such stupid questions!” Camille said her voice raising as tears filled her eyes. Quickly she unbuckled her seat belt and got out of the car. She began to walk along the highway. AJ jumped out of the car and raced to her side. She was crying hard while thinking I knew it I knew it. I shouldn’t have told him! I knew this would happen.
“Camille I understand” he said.
“No AJ You don’t understand you will never understand!” Camille shouted over the traffic.
He grabbed her by the arm and pulled her into his arms “I want to understand!” He said.
