Background Info:
After Series 3 cards were officially "retired", Ty released yet another new series of cards. Series 4 cards came out in November of 1999. They came in packs, boxes, or cases just like the other series.
Different Colors:
Just like the other series, there are 4 different colors in series 4. They are orange, purple, silver, and gold. Orange is the most common color, while gold is the hardest to find. Note that the common cards, lenticular action cards, artist proof cards, issued cards, and stickers cards do not come in different colors.
The Different Cards:
There are 7 main types of cards. They are Retired Cards, Classic Common Cards, Beanie/Buddy Cards, Birthday/Rookie Cards, Wild Cards, Artist Proof Cards, and Common Cards. Common cards are the easiest to find, while the Retired cards are the hardest.
Every pack contains 1 Artist proof card and one sticker card. A box contains 1 lenticular action card. An Issued card can be found in a case of cards (one issued card per case).
Autographed Cards:
People are extremely lucky if they happen to get an autographed card. Ty Warner signed 1 of each card, in each color. That makes a total of 404 autographed cards in series 4. The autograph is written with a gold paint pen. On the back of the card is the number 1/1, which indicates that this card is number 1 out of 1 made.
Retired Cards:
These cards feature a retired beanie. The front of each card features the beanie's retirement date and name. The back includes the beanie's poem, birthday, issued date, and limited edition numbering. There are 10 Retired cards in series 4.
Classic Common Cards:
These cards look much like the common cards from series 1 and 2. However, the words "Classic Common" are on the card. But, don't let these cards' names fool you! This kind of card isn't all that easy to find! There are 8 Classic Common cards in Series 4.
Beanie/Buddy Cards:
These cards are similar to puzzles. Your objective is to try to find the two matching beanie/buddy cards. The picture on the left features a beanie card and the picture on the right features a buddy card. These beanie/buddy cards have a shiny mirror background. The beanie cards have information about the matching buddy, and buddy cards have information about the matching beanie. There are 6 beanie cards and 6 buddy cards in series 4.
Birthday/Rookie Cards:
The birthday of the beanie on these cards is written in a gold star at the bottom of the card. The name of the beanie runs vertically along the right side of the card. The color of the beanie's name determines the card color. On the back of the card, there is a fun fact about the beanie's birthday. There are 8 Birthday cards and 4 Birthday/Rookie cards.
Wild Cards:
These new cards have holographic backgrounds. A ring of stars surrounds the beanie. The color of these stars determines the color of the card. The back of each card features fun facts about the animal the beanie represents. There are 15 Wild cards in series 3.
Common Cards:
Each common card has an embossed picture of the beanie and its name. On the back of the card, you can find information about the beanie, such as its birthday and issue date. There are also fun facts about the animal the beanie represents. 100 common cards are in series 1.
Artist Proof Cards:
These cards look exactly like the common cards in series 3, but they have a gold stamp that says "Artist Proof". There are 100 Artist Proof cards, one for each common card.
Sticker Cards:
In each pack you will find one sticker card. There are 3 stickers on each card. You can find 21 different sticker cards in series 3.
Tear-a-bear Cards:
In each box of cards you will find one tear-a-bear card. There are 6 different tear-a-bear cards in series 3. If you open these cards, you will find one of the 24 different Limited Edition cards.
Limited Edition Cards:
These cards are found inside tear-a-bear cards. Even though these cards say "limited edition" on the front, they have no numbers on the back. (Most limited edition edition cards in series 3 have numbers on the back, for example, the retired cards.) There are 24 Limited Edition cards to collect in series 3.
Issued Cards:
These cards are included in cases of cards. Each card features a date and the beanies that were released on that date. Each Issued card comes in a four-screw plastic cardholder. This is the first time an insert has been put into a case of cards. There are 3 Issued cards.
