Lora O'Shea is about to be burned at the stake for allegedly being a witch. Daniel Sinclair, son of the Devil of the Highlands, rescues her at the last moment. He learns that she has been sent to Carlisle by her Da to bail out her despised husband Shamus. Her father holds her daughter, Megan, hostage against her return. There is an immediate attraction between Lora and Daniel, but she is married to the cruel, despicable character, Shamus. She must go back to Ireland to rescue her daughter and refuses to let Daniel kill her hated husband for fear that her father will take out his spite on Megan. Daniel decides to return with her to assist her, so with Daniel's father and the Sinclair men they set sail for Ireland.

The Raven, leader of the Irish rebels, captures Lora. A devastating shock and humiliating truth await her. The Raven confesses that he is her half-brother, else she would have been married off to him. She was sold to Shamus by her father for 30 acres and 100 sheep and forced into the unwelcome alliance. The Raven, born to a gypsy, has become the most feared man in Ireland. Daniel is wounded and thrown into The Raven's dungeon, where he faces imminent death. The Raven is convinced Daniel foiled the revolution that would have gained Ireland freedom, but Lora tells him it was Erickson, the man who sent her to the stake.

The Raven sets fire to her Da's home, unaware that Megan is in the building. Lora sees Megan surrounded by flames and feels her life is over; without Daniel and her cherished child she can't go on. She tells The Raven that if he kills Daniel, who saved her and Shamus, he should also kill her, for she was entrusted with the fine. Erickson took the ransom sent for Shamus, then sent Lora to the stake.

The Raven, despicable enough to cut out Erickson's tongue, then send him to a horrendous death, shows a spark of humanity by allowing Daniel and Lora one night together in the dungeon. A night of tender love, despite the terrible location. Daniel's father and his men come to the rescue. The Raven falls to his death, then they go after Lora's father. With his death Lora is free to return to Scotland with her true love.

Celia Collier leads us through one escapade after another, one plot twist to the next, in this highly entertaining story of revolution, intrigue and mystery. Tempered by a beautiful love story Highland Fury contains everything required to meet the needs of lovers of historical romance. ~~ Reviewed by Sharpwriter
