Well I'm sure that from the title of my page, you've gathered that my name is Denise. My birthday is April 26 and I'm 21 years old. I'm Chinese, Swedish, Scottish, French and I have a little bit of Indonesian in my blood. I'm 5'2", 103lbs, I have long, straight, dark brown/black/reddish hair, dark brown eyes, and I guess you could say an olive complexion. I'm in my third year at U of T as a Human Bio and Zoology major. I'm hoping to become a clinical dietitian but I am also working towards being an opera singer.
MUSIC and ME
Music entered my life when I started taking lessons for piano when I was ten years old. I love piano but I don't think I ever excelled in it...too many bad habits acquired and not enough drive to practice. I finished my grade nine piano two and a half years ago and stopped to take singing lessons. I do hope to go back soon to do my grade ten...maybe after I graduate.
I started singing lessons in September 1998. Up to that point I had been studying Music Theatre for 3 years and wanted to go into both opera and music theatre. I really enjoy music theatre and my favourite musical is Ragtime. Despite my love for music theatre, I've been training classically, and would like to be an opera singer. When I was younger I hated opera. My hate later became an appreciation for the art and now I think it's beautiful.
Since September I have learned a great deal about how difficult it is to sing properly, how important it is to take care of my voice and how to achieve a classical sound. I'm doing about 3 or 4 competitions this year and I'm beginning to do more operatic arias which is kind of exciting.
