What's a feis????

Your first feis could be anything at all, but heres an example senario:

On Friday:

Well, you get to you hotel around 3 in the afternoon, and your sooooo glad because you have been driving for what seems like 50 Million hours!!!! After you put all of your belongings in you room, you throw on your bathing suit and meet some of you dance friends at the hotel pool. You guys swim for a while, or at least until you lips are purple (j/k!). Then you go back up to your room and put on some practice clothes. You meet your four hand reel group (along with some other dancers) down stairs and practice you four hand and your solos. But, you don't practice too much, you wouldn't want to be sore on the big day... By the time you are done practicing and goofing off with your friends, it's almost 6:00! You change into normal clothes in your room and then you and a few other families head out to TGI Fridays for dinner. For Dinner, you have pasta. The you need the carbohydrates for energy tommarrow. After Dinner you go back to the hotel and you and your bud go upstairs and grab your curlers. Then you and your mom meet their friends and thier moms to curl hair. While the girls do the curls (hey, that rhymes...) some of the boy dancers from you school may be swimming, so watch out... I know from experience . After the curling is done, the gals head up to their rooms and sleep. Zzzzzzzzzzzz

Saturday Morning

WAKE UP!!! Thats you mom (or dad) TRYING to wake you up. It took a while for you to fall asleep so, you don't seem to want to get out of bed. That is, untill you remember that you're at feis. Then you leap out of bed and have a nice bowl of Cheerios. then you put on you dress, and your bloomers ( you wouldn't want to forget those) and your mom begins the endless task of taking the curlers out of your hair. That takes you about 30 min. but in your mind, it seemed like an eternity! j/k. You go down to where the fies is... usually in the ballrooms and start to streach before the figure dances start. You meet up wtih your 4 hand friends and get read to dance. You walk through the dance a few time and then its your turn to go. GOOD LUCK!!!! Well, your lifts were high, your jumps were great and nobody fell. Then you start to get ready for you solo dances. You do jigs, reels, slip jigs and single jigs. Then, if you've been dancing for a while, you do your hard shoe dances. Treble Jigs and Hornpipes... your favorite. You do a great fast hornpipe and treble jig. Now all you have to do is wait untill your they post the places on the wall...

Awards

You and your friend run over tho the wall where the places are posted, and you see your number!!!! You got a 2nd place in your four hand reel!!!! Then you look around and see if you placed in your solos: WOW! 2nd place in reel and single jig, and 3rd in hornpipe. GREAT JOB!!!!! Your fist Feis will definatly not be your last.
