This means, that the Kolkata chapter will open fan clubs in and around the city and according to officials at Graceland there is a chance, however slim, that the Elvis that’s the way it is tour may visit India. -There will be no membership fee and a nominal amount will be charged before any promotional event. The number of Elvis fan clubs across the globe has reduced drastically in the last few years. Official estimates put the figure at 450. Fans who are scared to purchase online, will be able to pick up Elvis merchandise at low rates from us. By year end the clubs should be ready,- says Mr KS Prakash, secretary of the Kolkata chapter. In late 2004 Lisa Marie Presley sold majority interest in EPE to Robert Stillerman and his company CKX. According to the deal the identity of EPE will not be changed and Lisa Marie will be 15 per cent owner of the company and a significant stockholder in CKX. -We are aware of the aging challenge since we opened Graceland in 1982. We want to introduce Elvis to new fans without reinventing him. Even last week when Lisa Marie was in Memphis for a concert, we discussed the possibility of extending the Elvis that’s the way it is tour to cover some South Asian countries. We are also constantly shooting documentaries to popularise Elvis. The latest is Elvis by the Presleys that goes on air across the globe (even in India) today,- says Mr Kevin Kern, chief communication officer of EPE. But Mr Todd Zeller, president of the Kansas chapter, USA, is doubtful. -In the last financial year EPE earned over $43 million and probably the same figures for previous years yet they were in $25 million debt. Even in the USA steps are being taken to give Elvis a new image. The Kansas chapter will try to help other important chapters across the globe to attract youngsters. - The Kolkata chapter, which is about one year old, will receive help from its sister concern in Pune. Mr Prakash adds: -With permission from EPE we will be distributing lesser-known tracks of Elvis only among members. On one CD hardly three tracks will be distributed and the prices will be decided by EPE.- - Mathures Paul FROM: http://www.thestatesman.net/page.news.php?clid=22&theme=&usrsess=1&id=79575 ____________________________________________________________________________ Reprinted under the Fair Use http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/107.html Doctrine of International Copyright Law ____________________________________________________________________________
