09:55
This poem is about two people who spent their lives together and wouldn't live apart. It is also out of my book "Aspirations of Pen and Thought."
By James L. Nichols
- The nurses still talk about the old man
- And woman even to this day:
- And how they lived and loved and how
- They passed away:
- Seems she was always there praying by the
- Side of the bed;
- And the staff sometimes listened closely to
- Every word she said:
- She'd say Lord please don't take him, please
- Don't take his life;
- He's been a good husband, and Lord I've
- Tried to be a good wife:
- We raised six children and taught them all
- To worship you;
- But if you're gonna take him, then Lord
- Please take me too.
- Then came that dreadful morning when, code
- Blue came over the speaker;
- They rushed him into the operating room, but
- He only grew weaker.
- They prononunced him dead that morning
- At 09:55;
- The doctor tried but he just couldn't
- Keep him alive.
- The doctor went to tell the old woman, but
- To his great suprise;
- The nurse told him she was dead, she just
- Stopped breathing at 09:55.
