• We close our eyes,
• We turn away,
• From the things that happen,
• Every day.
• How many die today,
• How long before we see,
• There's no reason to hurt a child,
• Innocent as can be.
• Kelly spills her drink,
• Johnny breaks something,
• So then Mommy or Daddy,
• Gives them a "spanking."
• A slap, a kick, a punch,
• Is not a spanking,
• Mommy and Daddy are abusing,
• A very beautiful thing.
• Children spill things,
• Children break stuff,
• So Mommy and Daddy,
• Get too rough.
• This doesn't have to happen,
• You and I can stop it,
• We just have to open our eyes,
• To the kicks or the hits.

• Look at the bruises,
• Open your eyes,
• See the marks,
• Start asking the "why's."
