The issue of affirmative action has been debated for many years. This issue comes up again and again in politics. Affirmative action is the right to give black people rights over other groups solely based on their skin color. There are two opinions on this issue: for it or against it.

The people who support affirmative action argue that if they did not have it, then black people would not get a fair chance at getting admitted into colleges and universities because of bias and discrimination. The second reason they support affirmative action is for diversity in colleges and universities. They want people from different cultures, different ethnicities and different experiences. They claim this helps integration, and integration is necessary for a good learning environment.

The opponents of affirmative action argue that it is racial discrimination. They argue that using race as a factor in deciding college applicants is racism. They claim that it is racism toward whites, which has become known as reverse discrimination. They say that we should use factors such as socioeconomic status rather than race they say that people shouldn’t be given special privileges for their skin color.

Affirmative action is a big issue. It needs to be solved before it rupts into a bigger problem. Both sides have good points, but they need to reach a valid conclusion that everyone agrees with.
