The following are descrptions of some Bomberman games. For those not familiar with Bomberman, he is a video game character who lays, throws, kicks bombs to defeat his enemies. The Bomberman games are developed by Hudson Soft. Even though Bomberman is not as popular in America as it is in Japan, the video games definately offer some great gameplay which deserves more attention.

Bomberman Hero, N64

Bomberman Hero is a very different type of Bomberman game from the rest of the series. It is an action platformer where you control bomberman through levels similar to Mario 64 type 3D. Bomberman Hero was only a single player game, yet it offered alot of enjoyment for those who loved pure action games. The story is that Bagura has kidnapped the Princess Millian and Bomberman must rescue her at the request of her robot. The game includes ground levels, flying levels, water levels, and innovative bosses. overall, this is a very enjoyable game that was very popular when it came out and should be played.

Bomberman 64, N64

A more traditional Bomberman game that came out right before Bomberman Hero. This game has you as Bomberman trying to defeat the forces of evil with the help of your friend Regulus. This game also offers a very nice multiplayer mode, yet it differs from the traditional bomberman gameplay in that depth is now important.

Bomberman 64: the Second Attack, N64

This game essentially took all the innovations of its prequel Bomberman 64 and completely awesome-ified it. With an intense and crazy story line, better level designs and fun bosses. This game also featured Pommy, who was a Karabon sidekick that could transform into various forms when fed powerups. Pommy could also be controlled by second player. The multiplayer mode of this game was much better that the original Bomberman 64, because it was more like the classic gameplay, hence eliminated depth and had a large amount of new modes to play, like Coin mode where you collect coins for killing enemies, Key mode where you fight for finding keys to win, and also a King mode, where two teams have to fight and kill the other tem's king before their own king gets killed. This game is definately worth playing for any bomberman fan.

Bomberman Quest, GBC

This little known game features the first move by Bomberman into an RPG genre. In this game, Bomberman had just captured monsters who he was transporting to Bomber planet for imprisonment when the ship is attacked. The ship crashlands on an unknown planet and the monsters escape and start creating chaos for the inhabitants. Bomberman embarks on a mission to bring back all the monsters, and also to find his four engine parts which have been stolen. The game offers a town, a bomb forming/upgrading shop, items (similar to zelda), puzzels (like zelda), bosses, and tons of enemies. To defeat the monsters you have to try all tactics and weapons available to defeat them. it is highly influenced by zelda, and for most people I can see why it is not so enjoyable which shows why it wasn't that popular.

Bomberman Tournament, GBA

Bomberman Tournament is an epic masterpiece. It was released in america shortly after the gameboy advance came out. It didn't do too well, but the people who played it enjoyed. The story is that Bomberman's friend Max goes missing while on a mission, and so Bomberman goes to the planet he was one to find him and complete his mission. The game has a very lenient and carefree story, allowing your alot of freedom for a Bomberman game. It includes a number of towns and sidequests, as well as Karabons which you collect to for special abilities and to fight in tournaments for money, and also different types of bombs to help you on your quest. Between villages and dungeons, there are open fields where enemies try to ambush you. When you reach the dungeons, they are like classical bomberman levels, with puzzles and a boss which is very enjoyable to fight. The boss music is particularly cool. The presentation for this game is really nice, and every gamer should play this game. It also features a multiplayer mode which is fairly good.

Bomberman Generation, GCN

Bomberman Generation is the first Gamecube bomberman game, and the first to be in complete 3-D. This game is revolutionary in its application of gameplay. The game involves Bomberman looking for the legendary Bomb stars which have tremendous power and stopping the Higehige battle comet from crashing into Planet Bomber. The game features different bombs, power-ups, and also karabon abilities. The game is sort of like Bomberman Hero, except more Mario 64-style. The stages are divided up into levels, with boss stages being seperate levels. This bomberman game has some of the coolest features like Homing bombs, Remote-Control bombs, etc. The multiplayer mode for this game is revolutionary, it offers alot of modes and insane stages. It is definately one of the best multiplayer games on Gamecube.

Bomberman Jetters, GCN

This Bomberman game is the second game for Gamecube, and largely borrows from Bomberman Generation. Its gameplay is quite similar to Bomberman Generation. Even the story is quite similar. The main thing this game has to offer is a unique anime style, as it is based on the Bomberman jetters Anime series, and even includes Anime cut-scenes as boss intros. The cast from the show offer tips to Bomberman to help him in his mission and also the enemies are funnier, more colorful. The stages are each built on a different goal in mind with different obstacles and themes. The graphics are the major improvement here. The multiplayer mode is a bit different, although not as good as Bomberman Generation. You have the option of now choosing between the cast of the show, and a few new stages and types of modes. This game is worth checking out.
