Super Mario RPG is one of the greatest games ever made. Developed by Square and Overseen by Nintendo. After the brilliant opening cinematic scene, a sword crashes into Bowser's castle sending Mario flying. Mario, attempting to save the princess, cannot re-enter the castle, so he embarks on an adventure to find a way in. As soon as he returned to the Mushroom Kingdom however, he has to deal with monsters and villians trying to take over. The story is truly amazing, but I don't want to spoil any of the suprises. It has many, many comical moments and silly dialogue which is one of its main strong points.
The battle system is really great. Basically, you have four buttons on the controller, A, B, X, Y. Each button is assigned attack, defend, special, item. When you press the button, you can open up a little list of commands and selesct the one you want. This isn't it though. After you select a command, hitting the button right at the moment your character is about to hit the enemy results in critical damage. this makes the battling much more interesting. It really feels great when you get a critical with one character and then the another, etc, increasing the momentum of battle. This also works when enemies attack. Hitting the button right before an enemy attack makes contact with you will result in no damage. Also, items in this game are extremely cheap, especially Pick Me Ups (revives) so this game isn't hard, but its very fun. Super Mario RPG was so influential, it caused Nintendo to develop the Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga series'. This game can be played on the computer. Download it now. Hopefully, Nintendo will release it for the new consoles sometime.
