Overview

It was previously known as the Nintendo Revolution but was released on November 19th as the Nintendo Wii. If you ask me, it's not a very smart decision for the name, but then again 'what's in a name?'. Though not as powerful as the Xbox360 or PS3, the new Nintendo system has one great strength, that is the line-up of first-party Nintendo games. I bought the Wii mainly because i know I'm going to play Nintendo games, being a fan of Nintendo since the SNES days of Super Mario World.

Intial Reaction

I first got home and hooked up my Wii (after waiting for roughly a day and a half in line with some buddies to purchase one). Wen I saw it, I was quite suprised as it was quite different and had cheap paint which left fingerprints on it when you touched it. I was wondering about it, but when I put it in the stand, it didn't look so bad. The Wii resembles a hard drive, but with blue glowing lights in the disc tray like some car CD players. It's not very pretty at all. The Wii is pretty easy to hook up and has all wireless controllers. Before first using the controllers tho, it is essential to calibrate them to the console. The Wii also has a sensor bar which must be put on top or below the TV, so the controllers can work.

Playing the System

It has been about a year since I bought the Wii, and I am quite satisfied at the moment. I have purchased a few games, Zelda, Monkey Ball, Warioware, Paper Mario, Wii Play, etc. You can use the Wii remote to play the games by moving it around and pointing at the screen like a tv remote. there are some accessories such as the nunchuk which is basically an analog stick you can attach to the bottom of the controller, and there is also the classic controller you can use to play the downloadable classic nintendo games (it looks like a super nintendo controller except has to joysticks on the bottom like a ps2 controller. There are many unique gameplay styles for the Wii, I will talk more about it in the Wii games section.
