The Simple Man

The simple man don’t ask for much
to sing his songs some hearts to touch
the children come from all around
to sit with him upon the ground
fame and fortune he don’t need
power doesn’t fire greed
his blood flows with integrity
an honest man he’ll simply be

He isn't causing trouble
his songs he came to play
he sings them for the children
to brighten up their day
he may be blind as blind can be
he’s such a trusting soul
but he’s not a fool who won’t see
he simply doesn’t know

He’ll sing to them of simple things
why the sky is blue the grass is green
but some will never understand
a vagabond is just a man
a dirty shirt and faded jeans
he never lives beyond his means
he sits to watch the human race
a simple smile upon his face

He isn't causing trouble
his songs he came to play
he sings them for the children
to brighten up their day
he may be blind as blind can be
he’s such a trusting soul
but he’s not a fool who won’t see
he simply doesn’t know

and when his time here is complete
he’ll rise up from a restless sleep
and shake the morning from his eyes
then stop and watch one last sunrise
the simple man prepares to go
he may be back you never know
but his songs won’t be heard today
for now he simply walks away
