The La Dow & Olson Tree

Sorry about the condition of this page but every once in a while it seems that Angelfire goes on a rampage and just wipes it out. I have no idea why. I will work on it and try to get the pictures up and running again.

This page is dedicated to my husband family.

You will find
The LaDow Family Album
here also.

I have found that, as Americans whose families have been here four generations or longer, like mine, we can't claim any one nationality. With my husband's family, the latest is American Indian, Ottawa to be exact. Only two generations old, so I've chosen to go with that one just as my children are second generation Sicilian and I am third generation Irish. There are a lot more but these are the "latest" ones. These are the names we have found so far. This is for his family.

Annerauld, Bosline, Buell, Buttolph, Cossett, Fletcher, Foster, Gebhart, LaDow, Olson, Palmer, Wilcos and Withey

The "roots" of this branch of our family tree are right here in North America and in France. The La Dow line is traced back to France in the 17th century. Pierre La Dou/La Dow came to America to escape religious persecution in France. He and his family became "Huguenots" after the Reformation. Like the Mennenites, they were not well received by either the Catholics or the Protestants and were persecuted by both. Family legend has it that he came here as a stow-away in a wine vat about ship. I thought that that was stretching it a bit until I did some reading up on the "Huguenots". According to the National Huguenot Society in the United States, some actually DID come here in old wine barrels. All I can say to that is, considering how long it took to sail here in the 17th century, I hope that the barrels were actually the BIG vats that were as tall and as wide as a man. Pierre LaDou/LaDow's name is found in the Nation Huguenot Registry.

  • Now, right here it gets a little confusing. It seems that gggg-grandfather Stephen La Dow had 2 sets of parents, apparently the "fathers" were brothers, and Stephen himself was married twice, (his second wife was Elizabeth Wilcox but no children were born to that marriage, apparently) according to the LDS family history site, that is.
