Chapter 10

Sanes watched as the trees and farms passed by rapidly. Trains were a great invention. It had been a day since he had talked with that Lou character and he still couldn’t believe what he had told her. His fear of Wicks was definitely decreasing.
A year ago he would have never have done that. He sighed and continued to stare out the window. He wished that maybe he could help that girl a little more. It wasn’t fair what Wicks was doing to her and him. She may owe him money, but he shouldn’t be torturing her like this, but he, Sanes, had helped. He had thought up the idea of capturing the brother and sister. Oh he hoped that this would turn out all right. She seemed like a nice enough girl. She looked really young too.
It didn’t seem right that she was the same girl that Wicks had told him about. She seemed determined and unafraid. Not like that lost little girl that just couldn’t find her way. Something had happened to her and Wicks hadn’t realized it yet. Maybe that would be his weakness and her strength. He closed and eyes and fell asleep. Maybe, for once since this whole adventure started, he could sleep in peace.
