Chapter 3
Lucy sat on the bed next to Cody. He was sleeping peacefully now. They had just gotten to the station Jimmy and a boy he called Kid carried Cody in. As Lucy wrapped Cody's wound he woke up.
"Am I dead", He whispered. Lucy giggled " No Mr. Cody, why would you think that?"
"Because you look like an angel." Cody reached up and gently touched her long spiral curled jet black hair.
Lucy tied his bandage and brushed his hand away from her hair. "And you Mr. Cody look like you could use a bit more rest." Lucy got up to leave but he grabbed her hand. "Tell me your name, I wont be able to sleep without it." Lucy smiled. "My name is Lucy" with that she pulled her hand away and left. Cody slipped into a deep sleep dreaming about angels with Emerald eyes and jet black hair.
Lucy walked into the kitchen where the boys and Emma and Teaspoon were waiting supper on her.
"Miss Bradley, please join us for dinner?" A boy with sandy hair and blue eyes asked as he stood and kissed her hand. Lucy noticed the small boy across from him shoot the Southern boy a You best set your butt down in that seat 'fore I poke Miss Lucy's eyeballs out look. Lucy giggled seeing right away that the small boy was really a woman. Lucy wouldn't give away her secret. 'She has her reasons' Lucy thought.
She pulled her hand away from the boy and gave the girl an apologiesing look. Emma stood up and said. "Lucy thats Kid." She pointed at the boy who had just kissed her hand. "And you know Jimmy." Jimmy was sitting by the girl. "And this is Lou" Emma gestured towards the girl. Next to her was a bald and mute boy named Ike. Then beside Kid was a black boy called Noah. Lucy was told that an Indian boy, Buck was on a run and would be returning tomorrow.
By the end of the evening Lucy new alot about all the boys, But not much about Lou. Lucy was determined to become her friend.
After dinner Emma showed Lucy her spare bed room where she would be staying. Lucy, for the first time in her life went to sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
