DON’T YA’ JUST LOVE IT

DON’T YA’ JUST LOVE IT?

Rev. Ann White, SW Washington

My favorite “pet peeve” is when I’m driving down the highway, DOING THE SPEED LIMIT, having the car with the “Christian Fish Emblem” pass me like there IS NO SPEED LIMIT!  I think that’s not a great  example of being a representative of the King of Kings, who that signature represents.

According to the scriptures, we Christians, of all people, should be driving the posted speed limit – whether we think it is fast enough or not.

Did you know that we Westerners, who live in democratic nations, are some of the most resistant people to living by the standards that God has set up in His Word?  Could that be because we don’t understand the difference between a “democracy” and a “kingdom” and how different they are in their operations?

I will explain how a “kingdom” works, because those of us that live in our democracies should already have that understanding.

The Kingdom of God is just that – a Kingdom.  The Kingdom is ruled by a King, and there are rank, order and authority.  The laws of His Kingdom are not superseded by, or subject to, popular opinion, voting or polls.  The laws are not swayed by what we believe to be in our best interests or not.

In Romans 13:1-2, it says, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities.  For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.  Therefore, whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.”

God declares in I John 3:4, “Whoever (that means you and me) commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.”

In Vine’s Dictionary this verse gives “the real meaning of the word (sin).”  Vine goes on to say, “This definition of sin sets forth its essential character as the rejection of the law, or will, of God and the substitution of the will of self.”

In Romans 12:1 and 2, God says further, “I beseech you (beseech is a very strong word you know) therefore, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service (2) AND DO NOT BE CONFORMED to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may PROVE what is that good and acceptable and perfect will OF GOD.”

The things that do not line up in our lives, with what the Word of God says, are the reasons God can’t bless our lives.  It doesn’t matter whether it’s not obeying the speed limit, or doing anything else that isn’t God’s will – it will bring judgment upon our lives.  It’s entirely up to us, as in Deuteronomy 30:19, God tells us that He has set before each one of us (we are those “whosoevers”) life and blessing, or death or cursing.  It will also follow through our descendants and their lives – that is, which ever ones we choose.

Is it worth it to jeopardize not only your own life, but the lives of those who you love to continue in your own lawless ways – or would it behoove each one of us to evaluate our lives according to God’s Word and make the changes He requires?

At this time in history IT IS TIME to take God and His Word seriously.  IT IS TIME to “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness (God’s way of doing and being right) – Matthew 6:33, and seek Him early – Psalm 61:3.”

Final thought – “If you were arrested, would there be enough evidence to convict you as a Christian?”  It’s time for us to stand up and be counted and affect our nation in line with God’s ways!!!”  Start by obeying the speed limit – or take the “fish” or “bumper sticker” off your vehicle.

Sincerely, Ann White
