**“Think About What You Are Thinking About”

Pastor Bonnie MacDonald, SW Washington

Philippians 4:8 (Amplified)

“For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things – fix your minds on them.”

Mark 4:24, Romans 12:2, both tell us to be careful what you are hearing because you will think about that.  Psalm 1:1-3 tells us that if we think about God’s Word continually, we will be prosperous in whatever we do.  However, if we think about things that just keep our minds busy, we are not productive in a positive way.  2 Corinthians 10:5 says to cast down though high thoughts against the knowledge of God.

If you continually think negative thoughts, your life will be negative.  However, the upside to that is that if you will think good thoughts, your life will be positive.  2 Corinthians 13 tells us that if we love someone, we always think the best of them and stand our ground in defending them (Living Bible).

Your thoughts may be what are making you miserable.  If you are thinking your family should be different, or your job should be more fulfilling, or you are worrying about your health, finances, your weight … and I could go on and on … then you will not have the peace that God wants you to have.

How do you get there when you have an entire life of practicing to accept any thought that comes to your mind – *no matter what the source of that thought is?  The answer is: little by little, precept by precept, day by day.  Just start today taking notice of the thoughts that come into your mind.  Sometimes the devil gives you a rotten thought and then tells you how rotten you are for  thinking that thought.  Other times, the thought will be a memory (most often a bad one) and we meditate on that negative thing, or worry thing, and then everyone else around us pays the price of a “bad mood” that we will carry throughout our day.  How do you stop?  Just start paying really close attention to the thoughts that come your way.

If you’re worried about your health, look up scriptures that say you are healed.  If finances are a problem, notice the Bible says that God will provide for you.  If you have been offended by someone, notice the Word says that if you don’t forgive, God will not forgive you.  Make a decision to do just that and your life will be permeated with peace.

Remember:  Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith it is impossible to please God, so make a decision today to believe the promises of God and then meditate (think about) those promises and I can promise you a peaceful mind.

* Source of thoughts are your past experiences, the devil, God, other people, yourself, and your environment.
