I arrived at the airport in Tulsa, OK in time to check
in and board my flight to Seattle, WA. As I approached the ticketing area I
noticed on the monitor that most of the departing flights were delayed.
Though the weather was clear at the current location, the problem was caused
by thick fog in the Southern States. Three different layovers, and fourteen
hours later I finally arrived home. After traveling weekly for over eleven years, I have
adopted a certain method in coping with airport delays. It's called
perseverance and choice in attitude. When you know your final destination,
you will not only endure the layovers, but will find the good in the worst of
circumstances. Just like airplane delays, it is often that we experience in
life so called breakthrough delays. We show up on time for our miracle, but
instead of the miracle waiting for us, we have to wait on it. We look around,
it seems like we are doing everything right, but the delay is caused by
another source. Most people give up prematurely on walking out their dreams
and desires because their current route has a 'delay' sign on it.
Perseverance is often mistaken with careless waiting. In order for us to
obtain and walk out a promise from God for our future, we have to know how
and why we wait. "Perseverance is the ability to stand and thrive under pressure...When
we hold out for the good, our perseverance is expressed as patience. When we
hold on to the good, our perseverance is expressed as endurance." 1. Everyone
who wants to be a leader in God's kingdom has to go through the school of
perseverance. That is where we discover wisdom that comes not from a book,
but from a revelation through intimate relationship with God. Wisdom is
cultivated in "the context of trials and temptations." 2. Problems
and circumstances shape our character and reveal not only our human side, but
also our unlimited potential deposited in us by Christ. Where there is no perseverance there is a road called -
failure; but victory belongs to those whose character is produced during the
course of persevering while the 'delay' sign is on. Apostle Paul describes the result of perseverance during
tribulations, as one that produces character, and hope (Rom. 5:3). Hope in
God is the ultimate gift gained through the trial of 'delay.' When we learn
to hope in God, our faith will remain steadfast; we will not fear the
circumstance, but fear God who does not disappoint and is never late. This is
your time to persevere!
