STIR YOURSELF UP!

1.         GALATIANS 5:24,25 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

 

           

WE CANNOT AFFORD TO LET SPIRITUAL THINGS GET AWAY FROM US

 

WE START OUT WITH ZEAL ON FIRE, PRAYER, PRAISE, BIBLE, TAPES, STUDIES

 

THEN... WE ALLOW OURSELVES TO GROW COLD ... BUT WE DON’T HAVE TO!

 

            WE BECOME INTERESTED IN ‘OTHER THINGS.’

 

            LOSE DESIRE AND HUNGER FOR THE WORD

 

            REVELATION DOESN’T COME AS QUICKLY AS IT USED TO

 

            BEGIN TO THINK.......OH, I KNOW ALL THAT [WRONG]

 

            THE WORD DOESN’T SEEM TO EXCITE ANYMORE

 

            PURPOSE IN YOUR HEART THAT YOU WILL NOT… 

1. BE LAZY

            2. DRAW BACK

            3. HOLD BACK

            4. DON’T COOL OFF

           

INSTEAD…

1. RISE UP

2. FOLLOW THE LEADING OF THE LORD

3. BE HONEST WITH GOD

           

¨      LET HIM TEACH, CORRECT, REBUKE

¨      ALLOW THE H.S. TO OPEN UP YOUR HEART

¨      SHOW YOU WHAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED

 

4.    GET BACK THE FIRE

 

I PETER 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

 

            OUR SOUL IS PURIFIED THROUGH THE SPIRIT

 

HEBREWS 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

 

            BE WILLING TO LET THE HOLY SPIRIT CHANGE YOU TO AGREE WITH GOD

 

            YOUR SOUL’S DESIRE

            WILL GO AFTER WHATEVER YOU SPEND YOUR “TIME” DOING

 

Example: GOLF - A NATURAL THING…

YOU CAN GO FOR MONTHS WITHOUT IT, AND NOT EVEN THING ABOUT IT -BUT WHEN YOU START AGAIN, THE DESIRE RETURNS.

 

            IT IS TRUE IN THE NATURAL WORLD

            IT IS TRUE IN THE SUPERNATURAL [SPIRITUAL] WORLD

 

IF YOU QUIT PRAYING AND SPENDING TIME IN THE WORD OF GOD, YOUR DESIRE GETS

    WEAKER AND WEAKER AND WEAKER ... AND YOU COULD GET INTO TROUBLE.

 

‘WHATEVER’ YOU ARE DOING INSTEAD OF SPENDING TIME WITH GOD IS WHAT YOU’RE DESIRING.....

 

            DESIRE FOLLOWS ATTENTION  [GOOD OR BAD]   [NATURAL OR SPIRITUAL]

 

            IT MIGHT BE A HOBBY PERFECTLY all right FOR US TO HAVE,             BUT IT’S NOT ALL RIGHT FOR US TO DESIRE THAT ‘NATURAL THING’ BEFORE WE DESIRE THE THINGS OF GOD.

 

            KEEP YOUR HEART AND SOUL WITH A STRONG DESIRE FOR THE THINGS OF GOD.

§        YOU HAVE TO DO THAT FOR YOURSELVES

§        YOUR MOTIVATION FOLLOWS YOUR ATTENTION.

 

REV. 3:14-22 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou were cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth  Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:  I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

 

LUKE WARM = WAS HOT AT ONE TIME, BUT HAS COOLED DOWN

 

DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD AND HE WILL GIVE THEE THE DESIRES OF YOU HEART

 

PSALM 37:4,5 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

 

DEEPER MEANING:  DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD AND THE DESIRES THAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR HEART WILL BE OF GOD.

 

            THAT IS LIVING THE ‘HIGH LIFE’ THE ‘SUPERNATURAL, SPIRITUAL LIFE’

 

           

JAMES 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

 

ROMANS 8:5,6  For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

 

STIR YOURSELF UP.... ON PURPOSE!

 

DRAW NEAR TO GOD AND HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO YOU.
