Dear
Friends,
God wants
us to know and experience the fact that
Rejecting Pitfalls
Missionary Esther
Thornton,
Fifteen of The Most Common Deceptions:
1. The
Pitfall of Anger: “If my rights are violated I have reason to be angry.”
Dealing
with our anger: Be angry with the devil from where the problem came.
Eph.
4:26-27
Be ye angry,
and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
[27] Neither give place to the devil.
2. The
Pitfall of Blaming God: This forces us into a corner with no way out, as God is
the only way out.
Jn. 14:6 “
3. The
Pitfall of Confusion: We think something is wrong with us but it is
1 Cor. 14:33
For God is
not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
4. The
Pitfall of Criticism: Judging people not only limits what God can do in our own
lives, but also invites judgment back upon ourselves.
Judge not,
that ye be not judged. [2] For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged:
and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
5. The
Pitfall of Denial: We must face the truth. People who are insane think they are
all right and everyone else is crazy!
Psalm
139:23-24
Search me,
O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: [24] And
see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
6. The
Pitfall of Depression: Praise and a thankful heart are great tools to free us
of depression. God told me one time to write down everything I was thankful
for. At first, I didn’t feel like it, but I obeyed, to find that I had a very long
list when I finished! Then, I felt a flow of the Holy Spirit in my life, and
depression has to flee!
I Thes.
In
everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in
7. The
Pitfall of Envy: You must do four things to be free of it: (1) take stock of
all that God has given you and be thankful for it; (2) come to terms with your
limitations and strictly avoid comparing yourself with others, (3) make
yourself to be thankful to God for other people’s talents, gifts, and abilities,
(4) remind yourself of what your calling is from God and do not demand to have
someone else’s.
2 Cor. 10:12
For we dare
not…compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring
themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not
wise.
8. The
Pitfall of Fear: F-false E-evidence A-appearing R-real; Faith is the opposite
of fear and “Perfect love casteth out fear”. (I Jn. 4:18)
9. The
Pitfall of Lust: Sexual immorality is a sin against God. Stay free of it.
Mt. 5:28
…whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed
adultery with her already in his heart.
10. The
Pitfall of Lying: God desires honesty and truth in our inward parts.
Psa. 51:6
Behold,
thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the
hidden part thou shalt wake me to know wisdom.
11. The
Pitfall of Perfectionism: When God says that we are to be “perfect”, the
meaning
is: “complete in all respects, in a condition of complete excellence”. Some
have been
robbed of their joy because they are trying to be perfect in every way. When we
have a heart of love for God, we will desire to obey Him and He will give us a
pure heart.
Mt. 5:48
Be ye
therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in
Heaven is perfect.
12. The
Pitfall of Pride:
Psa. 17:8
Keep me as
the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy
wing.
13. The
Pitfall of Rebellion: It is as the sin of witchcraft in whatever form it takes.
We must be obedient and trust God even in situations that we don’t understand,
and continue to do our best to follow Him.
I Sam.
15:23
For
rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft…
14. The
Pitfall of Self-Pity: It is a work of the devil, stealing life away from you,
to destroy you. Self-pity keeps you forever from moving into all God has for you. It keeps us entirely focused on ourselves,
instead of God.
In I Kngs 19, the prophet
15. The
Pitfall of Suicide: Thoughts of suicide can come from feeling ugly, worthless,
stupid, unwanted, and unloved, and from feeling that there is no way out of
your situation. It is a spirit of
Jn. 10:10
The thief
cometh not, buit for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:
I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more
abundantly.
Jesus truly
is “The Lion of Judah” who breaks every chain!
God has an
abundant life for you, regardless of how things look right now. He has all the
answers that we need to live a victorious life. The best is yet to come!
God bless
you as you labor for Him!
