DESERT MOMENTS

Francine Stuart Herrington

Desert Moments are dry moments – they are a place in our lives where we can’t seem to find rest for our minds.  We have been so busy trying to find solutions to our problems that we feel dried out.

Desert Moments are moments when we are struck with unbearable heat.  It is a testing time in which we are being prepared to move on to a higher level.  Each level brings its own rough times, called trials and each trial brings its own tears.

Desert Moments offer those of us who have surrendered ourselves to Jesus Christ the opportunity to seek His divine directions.  This gives us access to God’s promises, called rainbows.

The Wikipedia (free encyclopedia) describes the rainbow as an optical (vision) and meteorological (space related) phenomenon that causes a nearly continuous spectrum (appearance) of light to appear in the sky when the sun shines onto falling rain.

John 12:46 notes Jesus’ statement as He said, “I am Light that has come into the world so that all who believe in Me won’t have to stay any longer in the dark.  We are told that He will shed the light to the path we must take to reach the victory that He set before us.  “The Lord is my Light and my Salvation, whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1

Wikipedia’s statement, “the sun shines unto falling rain”, has a spiritual meaning.  By the way, don’t forget the story of Noah and the Ark. This was the time the first rainbow made its appearance in the sky.  Genesis 9:12 speaks of God’s conversation with Noah.  God said, “This is the token of the covenant which I make between Me and you and every living creature, for the perpetual generations:  I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it will be for a sign of a covenant between me and the earth.

Just as God lets the sun shine through the rain, so will Jesus the Christ shine as the SON through our tears.  Matthew 28:20 declares that the only begotten SON of God will always be there for us.

“I will be with you always to the end of the age”

Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28 – 30
