HALF EMPTY / HALF FULL
Minister Francine Stuart
Michael had just been told by the doctor that he would never walk again!
His legs had been crushed in a terrible car accident. The young man took
some time to grieve for his loss and made up his mind that no matter what the
physicians told him, he would prove them wrong.
Michael was in a cast that covered him up to his waist and would remain
that way for at least six months. Each day one of the nurses would check
his toes to make sure that they didn't turn blue. A doctor would also
visit him and used a shiny instrument to prick his toes as he checked for some
sort of response. The bedridden man was sad when the doctor gave him the
news that he saw no sign of life but he didn't give up.
He started working with his mind. He envisioned his toes moving. He
mentally wiggled his toes and totally concentrated on their movement. One
day as Dr. Adams examined the bedridden patient he was startled.
"What's wrong?", Michael questioned him.
"Do you know that I just saw a slight twitch in a couple of your toes on
your right foot? This is a miracle, Michael!" The young man's
heart soared with joy. He then knew that all things were possible if he
tried hard enough.
The day finally came when Michael's cast was taken off. He felt very
stiff and miserable. He allowed himself time to feel his pain. The
patient then made up his mind that he would continue to concentrate on moving
his legs. Several weeks elapsed and nothing happened. He didn't
give up. It took Him several months before he could move his legs, as he
was persistent in keeping his vow to himself. A year and a half later he
was able to walk with the help of a walker
This wasn't the end for Michael! He knew that if
he didn't give up, he would walk. Two years later Michael walked without
assistance!!!
We all have the ability to achieve our goals. It takes persistence and
strength of character to follow through. It also takes loyalty to our
dreams. Most of all it takes the faith that we can do all things because
Christ lives within us. Philippians
