PACKAGES

Minister Francine Stuart, Florida

Are you aware that there is a child inside each one of us that longs for love and attention?  We travel through life dragging a suitcase with many small packages given to us since babyhood.  Some of them are beautifully wrapped and easy to handle.  They are filled with love, respect, joy, compassion and everything we need to develop into responsible adults.

Other packages are not so pretty.  They are covered with masking tape - the kind that sticks on both sides and are hard to get rid of.  These are filled with fear, shame, hatred, low self-esteem as well as doubt.  They contain all the negatives handed to us when we were children and  are very difficult to discard for they hold the essential ingredients that shape our attitude.

An attitude is a state of feeling or mind about a person or situation.  The negative boxes call out in angry voices, "You’re stupid!  You will never amount to anything!  You’re ugly!  You’re a loser!"  They constantly harass us and slowly kill our spirit. We start believing the lies and become what we hear.

Those of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior possess the keys to our freedom.  We have the power to bind these sickening packages and loosen the power of God into our life which will shape us into the victorious person He planned for us to be.  I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; the things you don't allow on earth will be the things that God does not allow, and the things you allow on earth will be the things that God allows.  Matthew 16:19

It is through prayer that we will be able to let go of the hurting words that haunt us.  It is through prayer that we will receive a new way of thinking - a renewed mind. We will learn to function on God’s promises which are listed in the Bible instead of continuing to operate on our emotions.  Remember that we can always run to Him when negative thoughts come to harass us. The Lord is the savior of the upright: he is their strength in the time of trouble. Psalm 37:39

As we draw closer to God we will be able to discard the heavy suitcase and let the pretty packages become a salve, healing our bruised spirit through Jesus Christ.
