The Old Testament is very relevant for us today
The Old Testament is
very relevant for today. Matthew 5:17
(Jesus said) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am
not come to destroy, but to fulfill. If
we want to stay healthy, it is good to follow God our Father’s guide for the
healthy foods in the Old Testament, what we should be eating and not
eating. Paul in his writings; all things
are lawful.
KJV 1 Corinthians
6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all
things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
AMPLIFIED VERSION 1
Corinthians 6:12 Everything is permissible (allowable and lawful) for me; but
not all things are helpful (good for me to do, expedient and profitable when
considered with other things). Everything is lawful for me, but I will not
become the slave of anything or be brought under its power.
Many Prophesies for
today are found in the OT. The Psalms
for soothing our spirit, and also for directions, and protection. The Old Testament gives wonderful guidelines
for every day living. I believe that
many of the problems we have today come from not following the guidance of the
Old Testament.
It was put around in
some of the churches years ago that the Old Testament was not relevant for
today, and some still stick to that teaching, and those who believe this, for
some, it is to their sorrow.
Here is a special
verse that is very relevant for today.
Train up a child in the way they should go, and they will never depart
from it. ....... Proverbs 22:6. There
are a number of verses in Proverbs in how to train a child.
It is said that if we
read one chapter of Proverbs per day, and several chapters of Psalms per day,
in two years our life will make significant changes.
Then we have Psalm
chapter one, if only we would listen to what the psalmist wrote, how much
better our life would be.
Many of us have
problems due to sitting and taking notice of the council of the ungodly, when
the only cancel we should be adhering to is from a Godly person or the Holy
Spirit, and of course God’s Word.
I have come to realize
that the Jews are prosperous due to knowing the what the Old Testament says in
how to manage their life, and their life style. How to spend their money, what
to buy and what not to buy. What to eat and what not to eat, plus on top of
this they have the blessings of Abraham, and our Heavenly Father. We too can
have these same blessings as Christians, if we would spend more time with Jesus
and in His Word.
Deuteronomy chapter
28 is a favourite of mine, especially verses 1 to 14, all the blessings we
could have.
If we only walked the
way the Old Testament tells us to walk, at least half our problems would be
over, and of course we have the New Testament, to add to the Old Testament
directions, as Paul in his writings gives us some very good directions for
living.
Those words; "if
only", we knew what the Old Testament has been saying to us, and if only
we had of walked in the directions that the Old Testament has in it for us to
follow,
"If only",
we had not eaten the garbage that the world eats, "if only", we had
of used our finances in the way that the Old Testament has been directing us to
use them, how far ahead would we be today. We would have less sickness, we
would have more money to use for not only our needs but to use to get God’s
Word out to those who need it.
The Old Testament is
a gem, that is very valuable for today's Christians, we just need to pick it up
instead of picking up the TV guide!!!
Love and Blessings,
Ivan
