JEHOVAH-SHAMMAH
The
Lord-God is there!
As
I begin this series on the “NAMES of GOD” – I just have to begin with the name
“Shammah” because it is so very special to me! :o)
Shammah: pronounced “Shaw-ma”
Years ago - before I
had studied about His Names, heard a sermon, or read a book about the Names of
God - I REALLY NEEDED to know that The Father was with me! I needed to KNOW
that He was involved with all I was dealing with. He is so loving and kind, He
took the time to introduced Himself to me as Shammah, and it is that Name that
still gets me through ‘stuff’ - and on into Victory and joy!! PTL!!
:o)
1985
was the year, and I remember it vividly.
I had gone to prayer for four things in particular: Three individuals,
direction for the Youth Group I worked with, and direction for a personal
situation.
As
I talked to my Father about each of the above, I kept hearing the word “Shammah!”
I didn’t remember ever hearing that word, and had no clue what it meant.
First
I thought it might be the enemy… so I rebuked it! hehehe@me! Then I thought perhaps it was something I’d heard in a song, or
on TV… so I prayed against distractions.
And STILL…. Every question I asked… I heard: “SHAMMAH!”
Now,
I don’t usually question what I hear, during a time with the Lord… but this was
NEW! (“Oh ME of little faith!!”) I ended that season of prayer…. Still
waiting for answers!!
It
was a day or so later that I heard Marilyn Hickey on TBN, teaching about the
Names of God. She didn’t cover them
all, but when I picked up her book “GOD IN YOU, TO YOU, AND FOR YOU” … there it
was… “SHAMMAH!” I had to have me
a little laughing spell… right there in the store! PTL!! HE is EVER
FAITHFUL! Amen?
hehehe!
I MUST make Him laugh a LOT! I am so thankful for His patience and
longsuffering!!
Backing up for a moment…
Before we can look at any other Name of God,
we first must first know “Yahweh” - the Hebrew Name for God. Yahweh is the
first Name that God revealed, and it is a prefix for all other Names.
The
Hebrew word “CHAVAH” translates: “God” This Name was considered so holy that it
was not to be spoken… they only wrote His Name… and they wrote it without
vowels: “YHWH” Even today, Jewish people are fearful to write His Name; they
still leave the vowels out - i.e. “G-d”
(It is unknown what
vowels were omitted from the Name. When it was translated into Yahweh - they
took the vowels from the Word “ADONAI” (meaning Lord) and inserted them; thus
giving us “JaHoVaH” (we pronounce and
spell it “Jehovah”).
“Yahweh”
or JEHOVAH means:
◊
“To live” – “To Be” – “Being”
◊ “The Lord God”
. “Adoni” = “Lord”
. “YAH” = “God”
◊ “Everlasting God”
.
The First, the Last; The Beginning, the End.
. Unchangeable Psalm 102:27
◊ “The Revealing One”
. Jehovah reveals Himself
◊ “I AM THAT I AM!”
. He is self-sufficient
. He is self-existing
. What ever you need He is the: I AM THAT!
When
Moses met God on Mt. Horeb (Sinai) He introduced Himself as “Yahweh” … “The
Great I Am.”
In
the King James Version of the Bible - when you see the word LORD, in all caps…
it is “Yahweh” or “Jehovah.” We first see this Name in Genesis 2:4, as Moses
writes of God the “Creator” – however, Adam and Eve only knew Him as “Elohim” (more
on this Name later).
JEHOVAH-SHAMMAH
“SHAMMAH”
means “IS THERE!”
WoW!!
THINK ABOUT that!
JEHOVAH ….…………. IS THERE!
GOD
HIMSELF………… IS THERE!
The
Great I-AM……….. IS THERE!
The
Lord-God………….. IS THERE!
The
All-Sufficient one is THERE!
Where is He? – He is
WhereEVER you are!
So… when I prayed
for Debi and Charlie…
The
Holy Spirit answered: “I AM THERE!”
When I prayed for
Scott…
The
Holy Spirit answered: “I AM THERE!”
When I prayed about
the Youth…
“I AM THERE!”
When I asked Him
what I should do about that family matter weighing me down…
He
Said: “I AM THERE!”
WoW!
What greater answer could I have heard?! One could just get up on that
Name, and REST! Amen? If GOD HIMSELF is THERE… what is there to be
concerned about? I just think that He can handle it! Don’t you? ;o)
Psalms
138:8 KJV “The LORD (Jehovah; I AM) will perfect that
which concerneth me; Thy mercy O LORD, endureth forever: forsake not the works
of Thine own hands.”
God
wants to have fellowship with the family He created. Before Jesus was born,
died, and was resurrected - we had no road into the presence of God … so He
came to hang out with us, in the man called Jesus. (Exodus 25:8, 22)
When Jehovah was giving Moses the plans for
the Arc and the Tabernacle – He also told him “The presence of the Lord will
dwell there.”
Today
He calls us, those who have been born-again, the “Temple” or Tabernacle, and He is still “Jehovah-Shammah”
in that Tabernacle. Amen?
I
Corinthians 3:16 “Know you not, that you are the temple
of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”
2
Corinthians 6:16 “…you are the temple of the living
God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be
their God, and they shall be My people.”
Ephesians
2:22 “…In whom ye also are builded together for an
habitation of God through the Spirit.”
“Jehovah-Shammah” –
The Great I AM – IS THERE!
ü
Do you have a sick child?
…I
AM is THERE!
ü
Do you have a financial need?
…I
AM is THERE!
ü
Do you need direction?
…I
AM is there!
ü
Are you in the wilderness?
…I
AM is THERE too!
ü
Are you in a pit of depression?
…I
AM is even THERE!
David wrote a song
about Shammah that I really like!
Where
can I go from Your Spirit?
Where
can I flee from Your Presence?
If
I ascend up into heaven…
Jehovah-Shammah!
If
I make my bed in hell…
Jehovah-Shammah!
If I rise on the
wings of the dawn, or go to the far side of the sea…
Jehovah-Shammah!
PRAISE GOD!
Where
EVER we go, what EVER we need…
JEHOVAH-SHAMMAH!
