A GENTLE SPIRIT

Face of Truth
When
seeking an answer from God have you ever sat in front of a mirror looking
intently into your own eyes to see your heart? Have you ever asked yourself why
the answer has not come in the direction of your prayer? Then you begin asking
God to confirm to your heart His reason for the disagreement of your answer. Weeping,
you inquire of Him to correct you so you may hear heaven’s response instead.
With
a heartfelt yearning you pray again and notice your focus has changed. “Do I really know who I am? Who is this,
Lord, who sits before You? Come, I need Your healing grace in my heart and
within my mind and over my body. Lord, change this image I see before me into a
reflection of Your Light, that I may know You and live.”
Eyes – Heart of that Light
With my
finger I follow the line of my eyebrow. Asking the Lord with all earnestness, do
I look critically at unrighteousness in a condemning attitude of pride, or do
my eyes have God’s light of righteousness and caring for the lost? I know I too
have walked where many unforgiving have walked and that His light found me.
So Lord,
help my eyes to see through Your eyes with my spirit. May I be full of Your
Light of Life so that there is no darkness in me. May I develop a clear and
healthy commitment to Your good will. “The Lamp of the body is the eye. If
therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of Light.” (Matthew
6:22)
Mouth – Lips of Speaking that
Light
With
my finger I trace the line of my mouth. Asking the Lord once again, do I speak
with my mouth what You speak through Your spirit in me?” Or do I only look on the
failures and mistakes of my sinful nature? Do I forget that Your loving mercies
are new every morning and that my mouth speaks only Your words of truth that
comes from a heart turned toward You. “My
mouth shall speak wisdom and the meditation of my heart shall give
understanding.” (Psalm 49:3)
Hair – Growth through Wisdom’s
Light
Then
my finger finds graying around the edges of my hairline and the scripture in
Proverbs, ‘wisdom as her crown’ comes
across my face. Age is an honor through its journey of righteous living.
Through the years all the paths I have walked have proven an understanding that
ALL my steps have been ordered by God. “The
silver-haired head is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of
righteousness.” (Proverbs 16:31)
Smile – Joyous Living in that
Light
So
touching my smile, a greater desire comes to my face that others see the grace
of God’s love in me. “Now no chastening
seems to be joyful for the present but painful; nevertheless, afterward it
yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by
it.” (Hebrews 12:11)
