In
the beginning of time as we know it, before quartz clocks could keep it, was
the Word: Jesus Christ, the everlasting, meaningful expression of God. He represents
all authority and spoke forth God’s creation on the breath of Holy Spirit’s
accessible power. Life itself was in the Word, and this Life within birthed
life. Nothing existed that He did not create by His authorized words. Now
ponder this: ‘The Word became flesh and
dwelt among us …’ (John 1:14) God’s Son was born to earthly parents, was
raised by earthly parents, lived and grew up under submission to earthly
parents, but was also in the beginning before everything existed.
Words
exist now through all languages and are outward expressions of thoughts and
feelings spoken from inward impressions of our heart’s hidden nature. “For out of the abundance of the heart the
mouth speaks …” (Matthew
The Word is the security of our faith
Christmas
is a wonderful time of year for those of us who belong to the Word and He then
becomes prominent by the words we speak. If we could be hidden messengers of
God, screening conversations and recording the words people speak during their
shopping experiences throughout this holiday season, what words would we hear
in the region of shopping malls? Would we know that of all the nations in this
world, ours believes in God? Many say they believe there is
a God but do they truly believe in God and His words of life? Must
this period of festivity in no way honor the birth of Christ Jesus? Must this
be just another holiday observed with marketable ‘giving and receiving’ of gifts? Must our society continue to
remove ‘Christ’ from
Christmas? Our faith as true believers must be spoken and shared as we remember
why Jesus came to earth as a baby, born into a family of Kingly genealogy, for
others to experience His life giving flow and God’s plan of salvation.
Words of Pretenders
Matthew
chapter seven of the New Living
Translation of the Bible renders verses twenty two and twenty three in a
way that speaks of words as being unauthorized. This denotes that we are to
study His Word and know it in our hearts so as to speak only what He speaks
through us. “On judgment day many will
tell me, ‘Lord, Lord, we prophesied in Your name and cast out demons in Your
name and performed many miracles in Your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew
you … go away … the things you did were unauthorized.’ This
attention-grabbing area of scripture confirms the importance of making sure
what we say and do lines up with what the Word speaks. The Name above all names
holds the power to do what His Words say He will do, but many go through life
not truly knowing the Person of the Word intimately. “Are you called to be a speaker? Then speak as though God Himself were
speaking through you. Are you called to help others? Do it with all the
strength and energy that God supplies. Then God will be given glory in
everything through Jesus Christ. All glory and power belong to Him forever and
ever.” (1Peter
A nation’s
belief in a Creator God is its outward expression of the hidden inward
impression that takes time to grow from within. In God’s wisdom He gradually
reveals to us the unknown hidden mysteries as we seek His heart and mature in
our understanding. Those concealed gifts within are made known as spiritual
maturity develops from the strong foundations of unified faith and knowledge of
Jesus’ word. God is preparing enlightened servants who will disclose revelation
of the Kingdom and present the Word of God in its fullness; the fullness of
Christ in us. The hope of glory will be revealed as His purifying Light shines
through us. Then we will be able to speak forth His authorized words of truth
and love with all confidence.
Words of Truth
The Word of our God stands forever and it
will never change. (Isaiah 40:8) We
can depend upon His Word as all truth, for our eternal God cannot lie. (Titus 1:2) Monitoring every word we
speak may seem awkward at first, but it will serve to advance righteousness. We
tell the truth before God and all who are sincere will know we do not distort
it. Rather, we speak all His truth in love to all who need a clearer
understanding of who God is and what God can do.
May this time of year for us become our
opportunity to speak with bold authority a wonderful and complete word picture
of His Life within us. May the words we speak be Spirit breathed in the power
of His glorious salvation and life eternal.
“Such
love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is
for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his
perfect love. We love each other because He loved us first. If someone says, “I
love God,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; for
if we do not love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?
And He has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their
Christian brothers and sisters.” (1John
