LEARN HIS WAYS
Pastor
Larry Gatlin, So Oregon
During the month of
February 2001, I was privileged to travel to the island of Negros, Dumegetty
City in the Philippines. While I was there I decided to read through the book
of Isaiah. This morning I felt lead to read over some of the notes I took at
that time.
One
of the portions really jumped out at me. It was Isa. 2:3.
Many people shall come and say,
"Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the
God of Jacob; he will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths."
For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
I felt that the Lord spoke to my heart that going up to the Mountain of the
Lord represents our coming into the presence of the Lord.
There are some really great things that will happen
when we allow our selves to developed such an intimacy with the Lord that we
can come into His presence at any given moment.
Look
at some of the wonderful things we will learn when we go to the Mount of the
Lord:
I
- We will learn His ways.
Let's look at some
scriptures.
Ø
Isa 55:9 “For as the heavens are higher than
the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your
thoughts.”
In deed His ways are
higher than ours. That's why it is even more important that we learn them. I
want to go higher in the Lord. I never want to stay at the same level.
We can be lifted up in
the ways of the Lord.
Ø 2
Chr 17:6 And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took
away the high places and groves out of Judah. (kjv)
My
hearts cry is lift me up Lord! I want to go higher in you.
C. We are to keep the
ways of the Lord and not depart from them.
Ø Ps
18:21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from
my God.
D. Those
of you who know me will recognize how much I appreciate this next one.
Ø Ps
138:5 Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of
the LORD.
Indeed
I love to sing the ways of the Lord.
Well let's move on to the next thing that we
will learn at the Mount of the Lord.
II
- We will learn to walk in His Paths.
A. Here's
a thought to contemplate.
Ø I
King 8:58 That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and
to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he
commanded our fathers.
We are to walk in His ways in every aspect of our live.
B. Walking in His truth is always the best
way to go. there is no
substitute for the truth in our
Christian walk.
Ø Ps
86:11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to
fear thy name.
C. Another
area that we must learn to walk in is integrity.
We live in a day when
the corruption of this world is trying to even invade the Church.
Ø Ps
26:11 But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity: redeem me, and be merciful
unto me.
Ø Gal
5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of
the flesh.
It is important that we always walk in the
Spirit. What better way to guarantee that we are walking in the Will of
God.
III.
Finally, if we learn His ways, and if we walk in His paths, The Word of The
Lord will go out from us.
A. First
we must commit the Word of God to our hearts. So that He/it goes out from us.
Ø Ps
119:11 Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
B.
Next, The Word of God is settled forever in heaven.
Ø Ps
119:89 Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
C. We are sanctified
by the Word of God. (JESUS) as well as the written Word.
Ø
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy
truth: thy word is truth.
D. And
in Hebrews 4 we find out just how powerful the Word of God is.
Ø
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick,
and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the
dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Ø
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living
and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing
soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the
heart. (NIV)
This scripture tells us that…
A. God
knows everything about us and
B. How
to minister to every aspect of our lives.
Some times we don't
want to submit to the authority of His Word. But when we do, we discover that
He has a special blessing in store for us.
In closing let me say that going to the mount of the Lord will always
cause us to come to a place of change. I know that change isn't pleasant for
most of us. But going to the Mount of the Lord will bring about the right
change for our lives; Never the wrong.
So let's go to the
Mount of the Lord so that we can learn His ways, walk in His paths, and then
watch the Word of the Lord go out from us and touch the lives of others.
