FIVE KEY WORDS!

OBEDIENCE – JUDGEMENT – MERCY – GRACE – HOPE

I. OBEDIENCE:

2 John 6

And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.

NIV

Rom 6:16

Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey-whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

NIV

Rom 1:5

Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith.

NIV

1 Sam 15:22-23

But Samuel replied: "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices

as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD?

To obey is better than sacrifice,

and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination,

and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.

Because you have rejected the word of the LORD,

he has rejected you as king."

NIV

A.   OBEDIANCE TO GODS WORD  LEADS TO;

1.    BLESSING

2.    LIFE

B.   DISOBEDIANCE BRINGS;

1.    DIS-HONOR

2.    DIS-GRACE

3.    SIN

4.    SIN MAY BE FUN FOR A SEASON, BUT ALWAYS LEADS TO DESTRUCTION.

5.    THE ULTIMATE RESULT IS JUDGMENT.

II.  JUDGE – JUDGMENT – JUSTICE – JUSTIFIED/JUSTIFICATION

A.   JUDGE ---- WEBSTERS DICTIONARY – TO DETERMINE THE RELATIVE WORTH OF SOMETHING.

B.   JUDGMENT – WEBSTER’S DICTIONARY - THE ABILITY TO COME TO A DECISION.

1.    HEBREW – MEESH-PAT – THE ACT OF SETTING IN JUDGMENT OR SETTING THINGS IN PROPER ORDER.

2.    SHEE – PA – TEEM – WHEN GOD BRINGS JUDGMENTS ON MANKIND LIKE HE DID AGAINST EGYPT.

3.    GREEK – KRISIS – GODS JUDGMENTS AGAINST SIN.

a.    KRIMA --- THE RESULT OF GODS JUDGMENT. (CONDEMNATION) JUDGMENT TO HELL OR FINAL JUDGMENT.

b.    HEMERA --- MANS JUDGMENTS

1.    COULD BE JUST

2.    COULD BE UNWARENTED ---

3.    NOT TO BE USED BY ONE PERSON TO JUDGE ANOTHER PERSON INTO CONDEMNATION OR TO THE FINAL JUDGMENT OF HELL.

Matt 7:1-2

7:1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

NIV

c.    HOWEVER WE ARE ALL REQUIRED TO MAKE JUDGMENTS EVERY DAY. THEY ARE ALWAYS IN THE FORM OF CHOICES.

1.    WILL I YEILD TO TEMPTATION

2.    WILL I CHOOSE MY FRIENDS WISELY

                       (3)

OBEDIANCE, JUDGMENT, MERCY, GRACE, AND HOPE

                     FIVE KEY WORDS

3.    WILL I DO HARM TO MYSELF OR ANOTHER?

4.    WILL I FORGIVE?

5.    CHOICES THAT DETERMINE THE DIRECTION MY LIFE WILL GO.

III. MERCY ---

A.   HEBREW --- CHECED (KA-CAD) LOVINGKINDNESS – COMPASSION

B.   IS USED LARGELY IN THE PSALMS.

C.   DIRECTS US TO “ELEOS” IN THE NEW TESTAMENT.

D.   ALWAYS INTERACTS WITH STRENGTH, STEADFSTNESS AND LOVE.

James 2:12-13

12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!

NIV

E.   TO KNOW MERCY IS TO BE SET FREE FROM JUDGMENT

F.    TO KNOW MERCY IS TO BE FULL OF MERCY

G.   TO HAVE EXPERIENCED MERCY MUST ALWAYS LEAD ME TO SHOWING MERCY.

H.   JUDGMENT COMES AS THE TRESULT OF DISOBEDIANCE, TWO KEY ELEMENTS TO DIS-OBEDIANCE ARE;

1.    REBELLION WHICH WE HAVE TALKED ABOUT.

2.    FEAR IS THE SECOND.

a.    FEAR OF FAILURE

b.    FEAR OF WHAT PEOPLE MIGHT THINK/PEER PREASURE.

c.    FEAR OF NEVER ACHIEVING GOALS WHICH LEADS TO COMPROMISE.

I.      MERCY COMES AS THE RESULT OF LOVE AND FORGIVENESS.

J.    MERCY IS WHEN I GET WHAT I DON’T DESERVE.

IV. GRACE IS WHEN I DON’T GET WHAT I DO DESERVE.

A.   GRACE IS, HEBREW -

Ps 45:2

2 You are the most excellent of men

                                                (4)

OBEDIANCE, JUDGMENT, MERCY, GRACE, AND HOPE

and your lips have been anointed with grace,

since God has blessed you forever.

NIV

Rom 5:1-3

5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.

NIV

Eph 2:7-10

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

NIV

1.    HEBREW ---- LOVING, CARRING, MERCIFUL, KINDNESS, AND FAITHFULNESS.

a.    HAS TO DO WITH THE SAME WORD ELEOS FOUND FOR MERCY.

b.    VINES EXPOSITORY DICTIONARY OF O.T. WORDS PUTS IT THIS WAY;

LOVING-KINDNESS

The word refers primarily to mutual and reciprocal rights and obligations between the parties of a relationship (especially Yahweh and Israel). But checed is not only a matter of obligation; it is also of generosity. It is not only a matter of loyalty, but also of mercy.

(from Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words, Copyright (c)1985, Thomas Nelson Publishers

2.    GREEK – CHARIS --- MEANS TO BE;

a.    FULL OF LOVINGKINDNESS

b.    GRACIOUS

c.    FULL OF GODLY LOVE

d.    BEAUTY, BOTH INSIDE AND OUT. BUT IN THE WORD MOSTLY INWARD BEAUTY.

e.    IT HAS TO DO WITH A RECIPROCAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GOD AND MAN OR MAN AND MAN.

                                  (5)

OBEDIANCE, JUDGEMENT, MERCY, GRACE AND HOPE

f.     GOD HAS BEEN GRACIOUS TO US, SO WE IN TURN ARE TO BE GRACIOUS TO OTHERS,

g.    GRACE ALSO HAS TO DO WITH GODS ENABLINGS AND GIFTINGS.

h.    ALL GOOD AND PERFECT GIFTS COME FROM THE FATHER.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. KJV

i.      THE GIFTS THAT WE RECEIVE AT BIRTH ARE FROM HIM.

1.    THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT ARE FROM HIM

2.    ANY SPIRITUAL GIFTS WE RECEIVE OR WALK IN ARE FROM HIM.

B.   WE DEFINE GRACE AS GODS UNMERITED FAVOR. BUT IT IS MUCH MORE. IT HAS TO DO WITH ALL WE ARE IN CHRIST, ALL WE DO IN CHRIST, AND ALL THAT WE WILL EVER BE IN CHRIST.

V. WHICH LEADS US TO HOPE!

A.   HEBREW --- GREEK IN BOTH HOPE HAS TO DO WITH EXPECTATION.

B.   WE HAVE A GREAT EXPECTATION THAT WHEN WE WALK IN OBEDIANCE, GRACE /JUSTIFICATION – (JUST AS IF I HAD NEVER SINNED) WE CAN HAVE A CONFIDENCE THAT GOD IS WORKING IN OUR BEHALF AND FOR OUR GOOD.

C.   PAUL SAYS THAT WE HAVE A BLESSED HOPE. WHAT IS IT? JEUSUS IS RETURNING FOR HIS CHURCH AND THEN TO RULE AND REIGN FOR A 1,000 YEARS.

D.   IT ALSO HAS THE CONOTATION OF TRUSTING GOD WITH ALL THAT WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN AND FOR ALL OF HIS PROVISION.

1 Tim 4:9-10

10(and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.

NIV

                                              (6)

4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

KJV

Heb 11:1-2

11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.

KJV

1 Peter 1:3

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

KJV
