HAPPY TO GO INTO THE FIRE

2ND Peter  chapter 1

I found many scriptures and references to temperance during my research for this article. Interestingly enough, most of the references dealt with the use of alcohol or some other type of consumable entity.  The scriptures noted above gave me a great deal to think about and still, to work on.  I do believe God has again in these scriptures set forth a plan for us to follow.  This like many of His others is not an easy or quick method, rather the life-long sometimes grueling and better learned lesson.  As I read these scriptures and the Holy Spirit began to deal with me on them, He started to show me that Temperance is truly in His plan for every Christians’ life and He truly gives us a plan to adopt and achieve it, which, like always is completely awesome.

        In our walk of FAITH, it shows in the scriptures that we are to add:

·        VIRTUE  and to virtue;

·        KNOWLEDGE and to knowledge;

·        TEMPERANCE and to temperance;

·        PATIENCE and to patience;

·        GODLINESS and to godliness;

·        BROTHERLY KINDNESS and to brotherly kindness;

·        LOVE !

We are to add each of these things to our walk of faith as Christians.  The scriptures go further to say that if we add these things and they abound in our lives, we will never be unfruitful in the knowledge and power of Jesus Christ.  However, it also says that if we do not have these things in our life, we will be blind and will have forgotten that our sins have been purged from our life.  FORGOTTEN that our sins were purged, or in other words we will forget our salvation!  That to me is reason enough to start working on this plan of His!  It will not be an easy undertaking, but with prayer and longsuffering, with His help we all can make it through.  The other interesting tidbit He brought to my understanding is the walking through the fire thing.  All things that are tempered are STRONGER than before… Why? Because they are subjected to extremely high heat.  Tempered glass and tempered steel is stronger than regular glass and steel because they have “walked through the fire” When they emerge they are stronger.  Just as we will be when we emerge from our fires, we will be stronger Christians, with character and mettle.  I encourage all of you to read these chapters in the different translations, as some of them are quite remarkable.

So the next time you feel hot under the collar…. just remember…. we are being tempered and the heat you feel and your actions that follow will prove to make you stronger.

God bless you – through the fire!

Marcus
