EXTREME
MAKEOVER
I am sure
most of you have seen the reality TV series “Extreme Makeover”. When the show first aired, it was strictly
about plastic surgery. The “recipient”
of the makeover, either had a “problem” area they were very unhappy with; or
they had some disfigurement that they alone could not afford to have
repaired. The show was fairly
superficial, not really finding too many people willing to exploit their physical
abnormalities; they found themselves with a dilemma; while they had a saleable
idea… they quickly run out of participants.
This led them to come out with a new version called “Home Edition”: This program followed a team of well known
designers and tradesmen as they went around the country completely renovating
or rebuilding their homes. Each family
had a different but compelling story. A
sibling group of 8 had just lost both of their parents within 3 months of each
other – suddenly, or a family had lost everything in a fire… each one very
compelling and heart wrenching. It has
actually become one of my favorite TV programs.
Its “ feel – good” TV. It
shows rich corporations donating materials, whole communities coming together
to put the project into gear, contractors donating their time and manpower, and
college funds, and paid off mortgages… It is really an incredible show. The neatest thing is… God is given the
“glory” on every episode I have seen. This
incredible “blessing” is acknowledged on national TV as having been completed
and possible because God has moved on the hearts of these people.
When
thinking about the topic for this month’s article, my thoughts fell to this
program. How incredible it is that God
is responsible for the blessings profiled in this program… and it is all well
and good. However, how incredible is it
that God performs “Extreme Makeovers” all the time. On a personal level. One to one. No pomp, no lights, no camera. His Heart to ours. Through His son, and the Holy Spirit He
enters our hearts and lives and gives us an Extreme Makeover from the heart
out. He can take the most bewildered,
saddened, dirty, dying in their sin, going to hell sinner and make them shine
with the light of a million mornings. He
can and does extend His loving hand and bestow eternal life upon anyone who
will commit their lives to Him and ask for and receive His grace. So the next time you look in the mirror and
see those few extra pounds or wrinkles where there used to be smooth skin. Or a little gray at the temple… try to
remember to see yourself how God sees you.
A beautiful Bride without spot or wrinkle; Complete,
forgiven, justified, validated and covered with the Blood of
Father,
thank you for your loving kindness, thank you for taking all my transgressions,
all my iniquities, all my inadequacies and covering them with the blood of your
son,
