Our Keeper!

PSALM 91:1 “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (2) “I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in Him I will trust.”

Last weekend, I KNOW my husband and I were “sheltered under the shadow of the Almighty!”

On the way through Portland to pick up our grandkids for the weekend, we were struck from behind. To me, it felt like my husband had driven over a curb, and yet we were sitting still.

      “What was that?” I asked my husband.

      “Someone rear ended us”, he said.

       For some reason, I didn’t turn around right away…..I really didn’t want to see.

       Eventually, I had to look.

A large blue pickup truck, pulling a long flatbed trailer stood close behind us. The large metal bumper had a large dent smack  in the middle……put there by our bumper, or so I thought.

“Oh boy!” I thought. “If this large truck’s bumper looks like that, what can our car, with just a plastic rear end, look like?”

Slowly getting out of the car to meet with my husband and the man in the blue pickup behind our car, I turned to look at what I thought would be a HUGE dent and broken plastic.

But I couldn’t see anything! The two guys had to SHOW me where the damage was….the tail light was cracked, with a chunk out….but ALL the lights worked!

I felt so bad for the man who hit us. He was SO upset! I was almost gitty in my thankfulness to God and tried to consol him as best I could.

As we settled on what we would do, exchanged addresses, phone numbers, etc……the man turned to leave. As he turned around he said, “GOD BLESS YOU!”

Was he a fellow Believer? Or could he tell from OUR actions that WE are? The point is, HE ASKED GOD TO BLESS US!

I feel that God not only kept us in His shadow of protection that day, but He put that man in His shadow, too. He put BOTH of us right where we needed to be…..US to help that man feel hope, and US to show this man compassion. We had settled on a small amount for damages. God puts us WITH the right persons, at the RIGHT time, for HIS will!

A bigger example of God’s protection was during the 9/11 assault:

¨      One man had to stop at a donut shop because it was his turn to buy donuts….he was late to work at the Trade Center and LIVED!

¨      One woman had a child that dawdled and didn’t get ready as soon as he should have….she was late to work at the Trade Center and LIVED!

¨      One person went back into the house to answer the phone….was late to work at the Trade Center and LIVED!

¨      One man had put on a new pair of shoes that morning and stopped to buy a Band-Aide to cover a blister…..he was late to work at the Trade Center and LIVED!

We shouldn’t be bothered when stuck in traffic, miss a bus, made late by our dawdling children, or rear ended by a big blue truck! This is EXACTLY where God wants us to be at this VERY moment! He could be diverting us to bless someone, or to save our very lives!  THAT’S OUR GOD! He has planned every step we take….with US IN MIND, BECAUSE HE LOVES US THAT MUCH!

And it’s all because….  “You have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, NO evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling. For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways!” (Ps. 9-11)
