"Salting the Slug"

My grandson, Fox,
LOVES to salt slugs! We even go on "slug hunts" with our salt shakers
weapons in hand.
Spring and fall are the best "slug hunting" seasons. We attack THEM before
they can reach our plants....or so we hope. They can kill a Hyacinth before it
even blooms!
Just a little salt will do it. But we end up pouring so much on them hat they
look like "snow slugs". Then they start to shrivel up and release so
much of their slime that it's REALLY disgusting....but something a 10 year old
boy just LOVES. The salt sucks out all the moisture in the slug....brings it
right to the surface. And if the slug tries to get away...lives through the
blizzard of salt...we can find him by the trail of slime he leaves. He's not
very smart OR very sneaky, except when he comes out at night when we are
sleeping.
Now if you go back and read the last paragraph, replacing the words
"salt" with the word “Gospel", and the word "slug"
with the word "sin" you'll get my whole point! Just think, WE are God's "salt". We are the "Salt
of the earth" - As Jesus calls us in Matthew 5:13. And it is OUR
job to "salt" sin. It just takes a few "grains" of salt to
send sin slimming off, leaving a trail behind....so it needs to be salted with
a blizzard of the Gospel...the Word of God. We don't want sin to leave a
trail...it'll effect and contaminate all who follow. (and if you've ever stepped on a slug with
bare feet, you know what I mean).
Think of salt in this way: How do we get salt...where does it come from? The
sea! And water is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. To make salt, seawater has to
sit in a pot or a hole, until it evaporates. Then it becomes a solid. This
solid is used to "season" food, to use in healing, to preserve from
corruption, and to purify things. (It was
used in ALL sacrifices to God on the alter, in the Old
Testament). Salt is pure white, each granule a perfect cube.
SOOOOO by
"soaking in the Holy Spirit", by maturing in what God has to teach
us, we become the "salt of the earth", pure and righteous, like a
perfect cube of salt. God wants us to "season" the earth with His
Word. If we don't, how will the world survive? The world would die smothered in
it's own slime...sin. So we, as salt,
"preserve" the Word of God and help to "purify" the world
from total corruption ....sin.
So that's a Christian's "slug hunt". No matter what season, the slug
is out there! And we need to "salt" it with our "salt
shaker" in hand....our Bible! Let's get it before it can "leave it's trail of
slime". Before it can "destroy the plants" and ooze its slime
EVERYWHERE! Sneaky as they are, we
can even find them at night...with the "flash Light" of the Word of
God!
LET’S GO GET "EM!
Bring a BIG shaker! We'll "salt 'em"
together! They don't stand a chance!
