GUARD YOUR HEART!

Pastor Ronald L Berry, Washington

KJV Prov 4:20-27 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

GUARD THY HEART WITH ALL DILIGENCE; FOR OUT OF IT ARE THE ISSUES OF LIFE.

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

We will be using the Amplified Bible, to expand our study.

GUARD YOUR HEART WITH ALL VIGILANCE

KJV Prov 4:20 "My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings."

AMP Prov 4:20 "My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings."

Matthew 4:4 "But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."

John 8:29 "The Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him."

John 5:30 "I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."

It is a necessity to pay close attention to God's Words!

It is necessary to be receptive to God's Word and apply them to our lives.

As important as food is to our bodies so is the Word of God to our daily lives!

We are not only to hear the Word of God but apply it to our every day lives.

We are self deluded or self deceived if we hear the Word of God, understand it and don't put it into practice in our daily lives.

When the Holy Spirit speaks to us through the Bible or internally through the inner witness, we should be quick to obey, for our own good.God sent Jesus so we could live the abundant life.

John 10:10 "...I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

10% Word 10% success, 100% Word 100% success.

We should place as much importance on God's Word as we do our daily food.

It is sin to rebel against the Spirit of God's instructions.

The Holy Spirit instructs our heart as to how to live the abundant, successful life.

KEEP GOD'S WORD CENTRAL IN YOUR LIFE

KJV Prov 4:21 "Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart."

AMP Prov 4:21 Let them (God's Words) not depart from your sight; keep them (God's Words) in the center of your heart.

Luke 4:4 "And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."

Psalm 119:11: "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."

Today we are surrounded by a variety of ways to keep God's Words in our hearts. Some of the ways we can keep God's Word before us are:

¨      reading the bible,

¨      attending church services,

¨      Christian radio,

¨      Christian television,

¨      internet,

¨      video tapes,

¨      audio tapes,

¨      books,

¨      Christian music

...just to name a few.

We have no valid excuse for not having God's Word available nearly all the time.

Matt 15:8 "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me."

Because we are so saturated with the Word of God these days we should be careful we don't miss out on it's life changing power; we need to take it to heart.

To hear the Word of God and not apply it to our daily lives is our own personal loss.

If we have actually applied God's Words to our lives, our lives and our conversation will reflect it.

Matt 7:20 "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."

A life of depression, defeat and sin is a sure sign that you have not put into daily practice God's Word.

Living in the consequences of sin is a clear evidence that we have not implemented God's Word into our daily lives.

When God's word is first place in our hearts, our life and words will reflect and reveal it.

We will exhibit the fruits of the Spirit when the Word has been acted on daily.

Gal 5:22 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23: Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Eph 5:9-11 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them."

HEALING AND HEALTH ARE IN GOD'S WORD

KJV Prov 4:22 "For they (the Words of God) are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

AMP Prov 4:22 "For they (the Words of God) are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.

John 6:63 "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I (Jesus) speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

Acts 5:20 "(Peter) Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life."

Our natural life has no relevance if we do not incorporate God's word into our daily lives.

It is our responsibility to seek out God's Words in order to access the abundant life.

Josh 1:8 "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy (be removed from) mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."

We are never to leave off from studying and putting into practice the promises found in the Scriptures. Now lets look at the other second half of verse....

Vs. 22: When our minds are renewed to the word of God we will experience God's provision of healing and health for our physical bodies.

If we refuse to let God's word alter, change, or correct our conduct, we will continue under the curse of sin, sickness, and disease.

It is not God's will that we be sick but rather that we walk in Divine Health.

3 John 1:2 "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth."

Jer 30:17 "For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD."

When we come to posses the abundant life and apply God's Word into our daily lives we have a contract or covenant agreement with God that includes health and healing.

When Jesus went to the Cross, there was a two fold exchange made for us, He took the penalty for our sins and curse of our sickness.

We received His righteousness and healing for our physical bodies.

1 Peter 2:24 "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed."

Some teach this is when we get to Heaven, but we won't need healing in Heaven! Amen?

BE VIGILANT AND GUARD YOUR HEART

KJ Prov 4:23: Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."

AMP Prov 4:23 "Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life."

1Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."

Matt 15:19 "For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies."

Ecc 8:11 "Because (the) sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil."

The human heart has a bent toward sin and that is why God puts so much emphasis on diligently guarding it. We need to focus not only what goes into our hearts and minds but what comes out of our hearts also.

The quality of life we live here on Earth is determined by how we respond to life's issues. We can respond from the abundance of God's Words in our heart or out of the responses of the flesh and mind.

We must take to heart the Words of God if we are ever to successfully deal with life's problems. Don't deceive yourself into believing that God's Word has no value in your daily life.

2 Cor 10:5 "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."

§        We need to bring our thoughts into compliance with the Words of God.

§        We need to be vigilant about the condition of our hearts, for the condition of our hearts will effect every area of our lives.

§        God has set before you and I the choices of life and death.

Deut 30:15 "See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil..."

Prov 18:21 "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."

Ø      We play a role in our destinies either they are active or passive toward God's Word.

Ø      We are not at the mercy of the luck of the draw, we can play an active role in shaping what our futures will produce.

Ø      If we willfully implant God's Words into our minds and activate them into our daily lives we can have the "abundant life" that Jesus promised us.

CHANGE THE WAY YOU TALK

KJV Prov 4:24 "Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee."

AMP Prov 4:24 "Put away from you false and dishonest speech, and willful and contrary talk put far from you."

James 1:26 "If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain."

According to the scriptures the role that our tongue plays in our daily life is vital to our spiritual well being and physical health.

Rom 3:2 "For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body."

The words we speak set in motion positive or negative events in our personal lives.

Negative words of fear, give life to our problems, they reproduce after their kind.

Positive words, faith filled words, quoting God's Words will produce a successful abundant life of health and peace.

James 3:6 "And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell."

Our words do more than we give them credit for, according to the scriptures if we talk defeat we release defeat.

Matt 12:36 "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

1 Peter 3:10 "or he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile."

There are consequences to our words, if you don't want something, don't speak it!

Rom 3:13 "Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: We are instructed not to walk by sight but by faith in God's Words.

2 Cor 5:7 "(For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are to call things into existence by the Word of God."

Rom 4:17 "God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were."

§        A VICTOR speaks God's Words of victory and prospers; a VICTIM speaks the words of defeat and does not prosper.

§        Change the way you talk, speak the answer, do not speak the problem, our words give life to what we speak!

A SINGLE MINDED HEART TOWARD GOD

KJV Prov 4:25 "Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee."

AMP Prov 4:25 "Let your eyes look right on with fixed purpose, and let your gaze be straight before you."

Col 3:2 "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."

When problems arise, our attention is focused on the circumstances surrounding them, and we tend to forget to implement faith principles, negative circumstances in our lives tend to demand all our attention.

If we have not filled our hearts with God's Word we have no resource to fall back on to get us through the crisis times but we fall back on the very thing that birthed them.

We need to focus on implementing the promises in God's Word to insure correction of the problem. Our sins were transferred to Jesus, and Jesus' righteousness was transferred to us, so we can boldly approach God in our time of trouble! Based on the Work and Blood of Christ.

Paslm 103:10 "He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities."

If sickness or an accident comes, first pray God's Word then seek medical attention.

Matt 6:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Our deliverance from life's problems is not based on our worthiness but on the completed work of Christ.

Rom 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

By placing God's Word in our heart we are free from the performance syndrome, and liberated into the things that God's grace provides.

We most change the way we think about life, we must renew our thought patterns.

Phil 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

God has given us instructions as to what to spend our time thinking about to live a successful, abundant, prosperous, and fulfilled life.

What do you spend you time thinking about? The answers or the problems?

CHECK OUT WERE YOUR LIFE IS HEADED

KJV Prov 4:26 "Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established."

Prov 4:26 "Consider well the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established and ordered aright."

Psalm 37:23 "The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way."

Hag 1:5 "Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways."

Prov 4:26 "Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established."

Consider this, that your life is a product of the decisions and choices you have made.

Do you believe the lie that you played no part in the circumstances surrounding your life?

If we never correct the errors of our way of doing we can't expect any change to occur.

If we make no change in the way we handle adversity the results will stay the same.

Prov 5:6 "Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them."

The Word of God is the final source of success, what we think about something seems right to us in the natural but God's ways are higher than our ways.

Prov 21:2 "Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts."

Luke 6:45 "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh."

Isa 55:8-9 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

§        Natural temporal thoughts and actions will produce natural temporary results.

§        Spiritual eternal thoughts will produce spiritual eternal results.

Psalm 77:6 "I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search."

We need to search our hearts and see if they are in alignment with God's Word.

We will reap what we sow:

§        If we sow carnal methods we will reap carnal results.

§        If we sow spiritual methods we will reap spiritual results.

Gal 6:8 "For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting."

Have you pondered, considered, and searched your way of doing things?

TAKE ACTION, NOW!

KJV Prov 4:27 "Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil."

AMP Prov 4:27 "Turn not aside to the right hand or to the lift; remove your foot from evil."

Prov 15:28 "The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things."

If we do nothing to change the outcome of our lives, we will get nothing in exchange, we can expect to have the same kind of results we have always had.

Prov 18:21 "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."

Begin to read, believe, speak, and put into action the Words of God.

Job 6:24 "Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred."

1 Peter 3:10 "For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile."

Our life is not some kind of pawn in the chess game of life. We can change the outcome of things by application of God's Word to every situation of our daily lives.

Ecc 8:5 "Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment."

Matt 4:4 "But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."

We do not have to live our life at the mercy of circumstance, we can take an active role and alter the outcome of life's events, blessings and adversities.

We must use the weapon (sword) of the Word of God to overcome each of life's attacks.

Eph 6:17 "And take the helmet of salvation, and the SWORD of the Spirit, which is the WORD OF GOD."

Heb 4:12 "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged SWORD, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

We are the children of God and have resources available to us to overcome the evils that try to enter our lives. God has provided us with His counselor the Holy Spirit to guide us through life's trials!

Isa 50:4 "The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned."
