TWENTY-ONE ATTRIBUTES OF LOVE

Pastor Ronald Berry, Washington

1st Corinthians chapter 13 is called "the love chapter". In this chapter we have outlined for us, the attributes of God and love. We find that God not only loves, but that God is Love!

1 John 4:8 "God is love"

If indeed we are born of God, then we will be like Him, in our love for others.

1John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

As we discover what love is like, we also discover what God is like. In the beginning God created us in His image. Since God is love, man was created in the image of God, or in the image of Love. Mankind sinned and lost that image. God wishes to restore mankind back to their original design. We are born again in the image of Love.

Col. 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

This is the test of our faith, whether it be true or false.

1st John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

The Bible is clear about this fact that we are born again to be like Him!

1John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, "so are we" in this world.

THE LOVE CHAPTER

TLB 1st Cor 13:4-8 Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out.  If you love someone you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him. All the special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end…

SYMPATHY:

1Cor 12:26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

FORGIVENESS:

Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

SACRIFICE:

1John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
