God Proved His Love!

Pastor Ronald Berry, Washington

THE CHARACTER OF

THE GOD KIND OF LOVE:

In Romans 5:8 "But God commanded His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

The word “commendeth” means to prove, exhibit, or demonstrate.

The love God has for us is - in spite of our sinning conduct.

The demonstration of the character of the God kind of love is that it is not limited or controlled by another person. God's love started in Himself and did not ever cease to be, but persisted and continued to the death.

God's love for us is totally, utterly, finally, and eternally, unto death and beyond.

Before there could or would be any reciprocation from us God stayed true to His love.

Our sins do not change God's love for us.

Our love can be changed by the actions of the one we love. We can and do choose to fall out of love with others.

The character of God's love is immovable by what we do.

This does not mean that God has no other character traits.

THE CHARACTER OF THE

GOD KIND OF WRATH:

Rom. 1:18 "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold (suppress; push down or away) the truth in unrighteousness"

We have but to read the book of Revelation to see the wrath that God demonstrates toward ungodliness and unrighteousness. As dedicated as God is to love He is just as dedicated to wrath against ungodliness and unrighteousness.

Heb:10:31: It is a fearful thing to fall into

the hands of the living God.

DO GOD'S LOVE AND wrath

contradict each other?

We can see that God will not alter His commitment to absolute love of us.

We can also see that God will not alter His wrath and is committed to the eradication of all forms of disobedience.

We learn from this there is no conflict between the character traits of God but an unchangeable commitment, one that is never altered by emotions, circumstances, or feelings!

Heb:13:8: Jesus Christ the same yesterday,

and to day, and forever.

LAW OF THE JUNGLE;

Law of the fittest:

If we look at the natural world around us we see the young killed and eaten by the older and stronger, that doesn't seem fair.

We observe that war waged by the animal kingdom and the kingdoms of men war for their very existence, that doesn't seem fair.

We see the innocent die at the hand of the more powerful, that doesn't seem fair.

All these things seem to make testimony that God's love is not present on earth. We see violence in every aspect of earth's environment.

Gen 6:11: The earth also was corrupt before God,

and the earth was filled with violence.

In the days of Noah the whole earth was operating in violence because they had corrupted God's way.

This current state of evil was not God's work but the work of sinful people. Violence is the result of the Devil influencing fallen mankind to sin!

1Jn:3:8: He that committeth sin is of the devil (or under his control); for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy (break the Devil's control over us) the works of the devil.

God doesn't release His wrath for the thought of evil but the acts of evil.

HOW CAN GOD LOVE US WHEN

BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO US?

When by our experience we observe so much evil in the lives of people, how do we reconcile a God of love with these facts?

It is hard to understand how God can allow evil to come upon His very own children and still love them. As loving parents it is difficult to understand how God can stand back and do nothing to intervene in the lives of His children when they are overwhelmed by evil.

At the premature or painful death of a loved one it is hard to reconcile the love of God. It seems strange that Jesus on several occasions found people either sick or dead and would heal them or raise them back to life. Yet when we have sickness or a loved one dies we are ignored by this loving God.

How can God really love me

and allow this bad thing to happen to me?

At no time does the Bible say that God's love is revealed to us by signs, wonders, miracles, healings, deliverance from devils, or being raised from the dead.

God's love is revealed to us by Him sending His Only Begotten Son to die on the cross for us. God uses no other method to reveal His love for us.

Rom. 5:8 "God commendeth (proved, demonstrated) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

God demonstrated His love for us by dying for us. No other sign is validated by the scriptures to prove God's love for us other than the cross of Calvary.

CALVARY IS THE UNCHANGEABLE

PROOF OF GOD'S LOVE FOR US!

Whatever happens to us in this life, whatever sorrows come, trials, death, sickness, financial reversals, or injustices we have the sure evidence of God's love for us that remains constant, unchanging and that is the Cross of Calvary.

John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

This is the proof of God's love for the world (of sinners and saints) that He sent His Son to die for those that were not seeking Him. No greater demonstration of God's love could be given other than that one would die for you and I!

Jn:15:13: Greater love hath no man than this,

that a man lay down his life for his friends.

While we were yet God's enemies

He sent Jesus to die for us.

Rom:5:10: For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

The never changing character of God is

recorded for us in the Gospels:

Matt 5:43: Ye have heard that it hath been said,

Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy.

44: But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45: That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46: For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the publicans the same?

47: And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? Do not even the publicans so?

48: Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father, which is in heaven, is perfect.

Jesus is not describing the nature of mankind but the nature of God. We do not think like God and that is why we cannot understand His ways.

Isa:55:8: For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

God's remedy for or inability

to understand the mind of God:

God's remedy for our lack of understanding is to renew our thinking (our mind) so it reflects the way God thinks about things.

Eph 4:23: And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

Col 3:10: And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge

After the image of him that created him:

Phil 2:5: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

God so loved the world He said:

Matt 13:24-29: Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? From whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the rest, ye root up also the wheat with them.

Matt 18:14: Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven,

that one of these little ones should perish.

2 Peter 3:9: The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count lackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

 Love constrains God

from dealing with the

results of mankind's sin.

We must always keep in mind that God loves the world.  Not only His children -  but His enemies as well.

Jesus' attitude was that death was His destiny. It was better to die for the world, and be in compliance with the Father's will than live for Himself.

He said: "not my will be done but thy will be done."

We need to rise to the place were we understand that we are here for God's purposes and for others. God's love is not relegated to just a few chosen people but all people, friends and foes alike.

We have a great deal of trouble understanding these things because we have not appropriated His nature fully into our understanding.

We can only begin to gain understanding as we read, hear, and study the scriptures for they are the record that reveals God's character to the fullest extent.

Matt 4:4: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Lk:22:42: Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

WE must be careful that we do not allow

church traditions to seal up the truth of God.

Mk:7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. The most important evidence of God's love for you and I is the death suffered by Jesus that we might be delivered from the curse of eternal damnation into complete reconciliation with the God of all Love!

2nd Cor. 5:17-19 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

God proved His love for us

BY Jesus' death on the cross!!

God bless you, and reveal His love to you.
