Agia Fotia Restaurant - Agia Fotia - Crete
The Agia Fotia Restaurant is situated at a 10 meters distance from the beach of the village with a view of the sea. There is plenty of choice in appetizers and main courses and the service is friendly. It is also inexpensive. We ordered tzaziki, cheese pies, spinach pies and a tuna salad (without the sauce but with oil and vinegar instead) for our lunch. The bread was good and fresh and the tzaziki was thick and with plenty of cucumber. No complaints.

Our Verdict: an 8,5 out of 10

IRINI RESTAURANT - AGIA PELAGIA - THE COOK LEFT
Once my favorite restaurants in Agia Pelagia. It is situated about 25 meters off the beach on the first corner leading of the main road. It's called Irini, and it's a wonderful place to have a breakfast, lunch or dinner. This is the place where you will find us almost every morning to have a coffee and bacon and eggs, while we are trying to wake up. It is run by Giannis and he is fast and always in a good mood. Manos is in the kitchen and he is a marvelous cook. Also the plates, the glasses and the way the food is presented makes this a super restaurant. Some of our favorites are the chickenfilet in honey-mustard sauce, the salads with the fresh herbs and the pizza's.
Our verdict: none anymore, the cook is gone

Stella, Nikos and Methismennos. Stella and Nikos at Mouragio restaurant. My friends at the Mouragio restaurant: Brigitte Sisi (locally known as Sura), Moniek and Methismennos. Stella

MOURAGIO RESTAURANT WITH NIKOS AND STELLA, AGIA PELAGIA.
Stella and Nikos work in the best restaurant of Agia Pelagia: Mouragio, the 4th taverna from the beginning of the beach. Their fried zuchini's, tuna salad, gyros and chicken dishes are addictive, so is the laughter of Stella, and friendlyness of all of the people there. Stella's husband is the cook, and he's simply the best. There is one big problem at the Mouragio Restaurant and I hope they will change this in the future: they give you too many complementairy bottles of a high alcohol percentaged liquid called "raki" after you have stuffed yourself with their food, and your holiday pictures end up like this... Some of our favorites are the saganaki (fried cheese), fava (just try it, it's made of beans), fried shrimps, swordfishfilet (the best we ever tasted in the whole of Greece), stifado, lamb chops and pizza.
Our verdict: a 9,5 out of 10

PIATSA COCKTAIL BAR - AGIA PELAGIA
Piatsa is situated on the corner of the beach and the main street of Agia Pelagia. It is a cocktailbar, but you can for instance also get ice cream and off course a cup of coffee. For us it is a nice place to have a wonderful cup of Lavazza coffee with a metaxa or an Irish coffee at the end of the afternoon. The service is friendly, the seats are comfortable and there is nothing wrong with it.
Our verdict: a 9 out of 10

DEL MAR CAFE BAR - AGIA PELAGIA
The Del Mar Cafe Bar is situated at the left side of the beach (when coming from the main street) of Agia Pelagia. It all looks quite modern and fresh. Only the toilet leaves something to be desired with a door that is impossible to close. It looks like it is from the 50's, but who knows by the time you read this it has been changed. The cappuccino was served with whipped cream instead of whipped milk (easy of course) and there was no glass of water. We ordered a club sandwich. The french fries were reasonably cruncht, the sandwiches were not toasted enough. Besides cocktails and coffee you can also order snacks here like hamburgers and pizzas. There is a beautiful view of the sea and the island of Dia that lies oposite the coast of Agia pelagia.
Our verdict: a 7 out of 10

KANALI CAFÉ SNACKBAR - AGIOS NIKOLAOS
Snackbar at the Voulismeni Lake, the last in the row towards the sea (it's actually at the canal that leads to the sea). They serve toast, ommelettes, hot dogs, crepes, club sandwiches, salads, hamburgers and all kinds of snacks, extensive menu and fast service. The french fries are crunchy and taste good and so does all the rest that we order. Large portions, cheap and good for what it is. The toilets are very clean.
Our verdict: a 9,5 out of 10

MORITZ CAFÉ BAR - AGIOS NIKOLAOS
Café bar on the boulevard that runs along the sea. they serve a good Buondi coffee. The cappuccino comes with a glass of cold water. Nice and comfortable seats, nice music and beautiful toilets.
Our verdict: an 8 out of 10

Psaros Taverna - Almirida
Taverna at the sea front of Almirida (at the long beach). Lots of appetizers, lots of vegetarian dishes and fish. We tried the taramosalata (fish eggs), tzaziki and the Psaros salad (with shrimps, tuna, avocado, tomatoes, cucumbers and spring onions). The bread was fresh and in one piece.
Our verdict: an 8 out of 10

ELE MESSA RESTAURANT - ANALIPSI (N)
The Ela Messa restaurant is situated on the beach-boulevard of Analipsi. The cappuccino comes with whipped cream instead of milk, and there is no cookie or glass of water to accompany it. It tastes good and strong though and the service is superfriendly.
Our verdict: a 7,5 out of 10

POSEIDON / TSALOS BEACH RESTAURANT - ANALIPSI (N)
A restaurant with many names where we have had dinner a lot of times. They probably don't know themselves anymore what they are called, but it is a good one! The rosé is served in a nice earhtenware decanter and the wine glasses are beautiful. The girl working there even pours the first rosé into our glasses and she offers to take our picture. The bread is warm from the oven and it is served with tomato tapenade and garlic butter. I order a plate with a bit of everything, the Greek plate: cheap and lots to choose from. It tastes very good. The restaurant turns out to be classy (damast table cloths instead of plastic), with the best of service, and actually it is quite cheap. We have eaten here a lot of times and we never had any complaints. Also nice for a breakfast.
Our verdict: a 9 out of 10

H Eisodos Taverna - Argiroupolis
H Eisodos in Argiroupolis a very good taverna set on the side of the road at the edge of the village. There are several starters, amongst which are many small vegetarian dishes, and there are salads, pizzas, grilled chicken or grilled meat, pitas. It is also very cheap. On the table this time no paper table cloths but real linen. The portions are very large as well. Our salad had lovely fresh herbs in it and the french fries were chrunchy and tasty.
Oour verdict: an 9+ out of 10

CAFE KIMBO - BALI
A bar / coffee shop at one of the beaches in Bali. Even though it is very quiet it takes for ever to make us a cup of cappuccino and when it finally gets there it is watery and with whipped cream on top. Best thing about it is te view on the beach with all those French people on it.
Our verdict: a 7 out of 10

Skorpion Café - Bali
This café bar is situated not far from the entrance to Bali and looks out over the most eastern beach of Bali. They serve breakfasts, salads, coffee, sandwiches, drinks and all kinds of snacks. Nice views and comfortable seats.
Our verdict: a 7 out of 10

MICHALAKIS RESTAURANT - ELOUNDA
A restaurant situated in the harbour of Elounda, close to the bus station square for the excursion busses. They serve many different kinds of salads (with shrimps or tuna for instance), many ommelettes, and there is a wide variety in main courses. There are special menu's for children. The coffee is a very good, very large cup of Illy coffee, the ommelettes special are super, and the french fries crispy.
Our verdict: a 9 out of 10

To Geraki Taverna - Epano Sisi

DOLPHIN TAVERNA - GEORGIOUPOLI
Club sandwiches, pancakes, crêpes, salads, pizza's, ommelettes, grilled food with french fries, ice cream and pastry are a few things that are on the menu here at this taverna on the main square in Georgioupoli. The cappuccino comes in large cups and it is strong and good. The crêpes are very richly filled, tasty and cheap!
Our verdict: a 9 out of 10

SUMMERTIME SNACKBAR - GEORGIOUPOLI
Situated at the beach of Georgioupoli. They serve breakfasts, coffee, ommelettes, club sandwiches, pizzas, pastas and all sorts of snacks. The cappuccinos are super, the best, and the come with a glass of cold water. The french fries are crunchy, the service is good and very friendly and it is totally inexpensive. Maybe the best we have tried in Georgioupoli so far (and we have tried many more tavernas and restaurants in this village). Also a nice view of the sea and beautiful, stylish and comfortable furniture.
Our verdict: a 9+ out of 10

TITO'S CAFÉ - GEORGIOUPOLI
Tito's Café is situated on the central square in Georgioupoli. There are different kinds of breakfast, pancakes, ommelettes, hamburgers, fresh orange juice and several kinds of snacks available. The Lavazza cappuccino comes without a glass of cold water. No other complaints here ane like most of the taverna's in Georgioupoli it is not really expensive.
Our verdict: a 7,5 out of 10

AKROGIALI TAVERNA - KATO ZAKROS
For this restaurant we made a special detour last holiday after a few hours at the beach of Xerokampos. It is a place where we have been more often and where we have had breakfasts and evening meals. The position on the beach of Kato Zakros, the kind service and the vibes are special here. The owner of the restaurant is named Nikos and he also rents out rooms at the beach. We have stayed with him a couple of times. Since rooms are scarse in Kato Zakros maybe it is a good tip. Tel. 0030 28430 26893 - Send an email to Akrogiali. The food in the taverna is simple and honest Greek food, and the coffee is good. Our verdict: a 9 out of 10

RESTAURANT IN KEFALI ON CRETE
Kefali is a little mountain village that you will drive through when you are on your way to the Chrisoskalitissa monastery or Elafonisi island in the southwest of Crete. It's nothing much: a few small hotels, a few very small shops which are at the same time bar, minimarket, coffeeshop and taverna, and a few houses. If you are German or if you understand the language, it's worth a visit though if you want to have a good laugh. You can admire the rusty toilet door and the (I think) Minoan toilet brush of the lady with the moustache, see what special menu list they have for you and have a good laugh :)!
No verdict but we loved the sign with the menu on it.

LIMANI RESTAURANT - MAKRIGIALOS
A taverna with a very extensive menu illustrated with pictures. You will be handed one when you sit down at one of the tables. This seemed to be the busiest taverna in the row of taverna's in the harbour, so we thought we would give it a try. They have a lot of fish dishes on the menu. We tried the tuna salad, the garlic bread (which was good), beetroot salad, spagetthi bolognese, sole fish (no bones but tasteless and we think - or are sure - it was deepfreezed and not fresh), french fries (soft, not chrunchy)... to be short, it was sort of a disappointment. Besides that there was football on the television (this might explain why it was so busy, it couldn't have been because of the food), and we seemed to be "invisible"- meaning: nobody was paying any attention to us, bad service.
Our verdict: a 6,5 out of 10

SEMELI RESTAURANT - MAKRIGIALOS
The neighbour of the Limani Restaurant above. This one was quiet and for us this was a mistery, because it was much better and cheaper too. We tried the same fish, sole fish (good, crispy and tasty), salad Semeli with spinach, rucola, cheese and turkey (good!), lamb chops (also good), french fries (like they should be - crispy) and courgette balls (also good but a bit on the salty side). The bread came in one piece and it was fresh. The only downside was the rosé, which was a bit tasteless...at least we thought so. Conclusion: cheaper and much better than the next door neighbour, and we wonder what everybody was doing there. The service was friendly and also much better.
Our verdict: an 8,5 out of 10

ILIOS CAFE - MAKRIGIALOS
The Ilios Café is located at the village beach in Makrigialos. It's not a place to have lunch or dinner but a good place for a cup of coffee, a soda, a cocktail or some ice cream. Friendly service and a good cappuccino with a glass of cold water.
Onur verdict: an 8 out of 10

Aptera Taverna in Megala Chorafia
Actually we have only had a soda here but the people that work here were so overwhelmingly friendly that they deserve a place in the spotlights. We asked for the directions to our next accommodation and before we new it they took out their own telephone to contact the owners of our destination and ask them what road we should take and how to get there. It was also quite cosy. The taverna is situated at the crossroads in Megala Chorafia (it says Aptera as you drive into the village but actually you drive into Megala Chorafia - this is where our confusion started because were already where we wanted to go to). Anyways, no verdict about the food but if that is just as good as the kindness of these people than it is a big fat ten.

CAFE BAR KORINA - MIRTOS
Only a small menu here in Cafe Bar Korina in Mirtos, on the southcoast of crete: breakfast, ice cream, yoghurt with honey and a beautiful cup of Illy coffee. Not much, but what they serve is okay. It is situated on the boulevard where most of the restaurants are.
Our verdict: an 8,5 out of 10

OMBROS GIALOS TAVERNA - OMBROS GIALOS
The location of this taverna is worth a visit on its own. It is situated in the Apokoronas area, close to Kefalas, and set at the sea, with beautiful views. The food is very good as well, mainly honest traditional and original Greek dishes.
Our verdict: an 8,5 out of 10

PORTO RESTAURANT - PACHIA AMOS
This cozy taverna is situated at the beach of Pachia Amos and they serve different kinds of coffee, apetizers, spagetthi, ommelettes, salads, grilled meat and fish, pizza's and several other dishes. The woman that runs the place has got a good sense of humor and she's very friendly. The cappuccino gets a thumbs up, with milk, like it should be. The tzaziki could have done with a bit more cucumber, the Greek salad is okay, with paprika, onions and olives, the cheese qroquettes are tasty and the bread is in one piece and it's fresh.
Our verdict: an 8 out of 10

SUNRISE BAR - PALEOCHORA
This is a bar in the harbour of Paleochora. The Lavazza cappuccino costs 2 euro 50 (2007). On the menu are breakfast, ommelettes, cocktails, sandwiches and yoghurt with honey. Long waiting time before our order arrives. Nice seats and great view though and both the coffee and the yoghurt taste good.
Our verdict: an 8 out of 10

STAMNA GRILLHOUSE - PLATANIAS
Sort of a fastfood restaurant on the main road that runs through Platanias (between Kolimbari and Chania). We order cappuccino's, a baguette with tuna salad and a club sandwich. On the menu are breakfasts, snacks, ommelettes, pita's, pizza's, giros, salads and many fast kind of foods. it's inexpensive and they serve great Illy coffee, crunchy fries and nice sandwiches.
Our verdict: an 8,5 out of 10

Sisi Taverna Thalassinos Kosmos Sisi Taverna Thalassinos Kosmos Sisi Taverna Thalassinos Kosmos Sisi Taverna Thalassinos Kosmos
Thalassinos Kosmos Taverna - Sisi
Thalassinos Kosmos Taverna, which is situated on the "river" at Sisi is brightly decorated with Greek wallpaintings. Working there is funny and friendly Adriaan (on the picture with my friends). The menu is very extensive. We always come here for their sliced fried zucchinies with parmezan cheese, which are very delicious. Last time we also tried the tzaziki, the tuna salad and some other dishes. No real complaints, only one: the bread that was served was not in one piece (so maybe a collection from other people that were served again and again??) and it was also not fresh.
Our verdict, I would have given them a higher rate but because of the bread: a 7,5 out of 10

Apostolos Taverna - Sisi
Apostolos Taverna is downstairs at the "river" and it is the place where you can feed the ducks. You can have breakfast here as well. The menu is extensive. There are several appetizers, salads, ommelettes, grilled fish or meat. We tried the octopus salad, tzaziki, herb pies, the hamburger and the yoghurt with honey. They didn't serve bread but warm buns with butter instead.
Our verdict: an 8 out of 10

Pyramida Cocktail Bar - Sisi
Pyramida Cocktail Bar is located on the corner of the sea towards the "river". There are comfortable seats and a nice view of the sea. We have often had a drink here. You are always served very quickly and your order usually also arrives quite fast but if you want to pay the bill that seems to always cost a lot of time. Nobody seems to notice you and eventually you will walk to the cash register in the hope that someone will see you there. The cappuccino the last time came with a big fat dot of whipped cream on top of it and it was also much more expensive than average. Moreover, it didn't taste really good. For us this was the last time in Pyramida.
Our verdict, okay for the old memories: a 6 out of 10

Pink Flamingo Restaurant - Sisi - Recommended by Gherghiceanu Maria-Magdalena
The restaurant is across the street to beach, very nice, clean, cool place, green garden with all kind of flowers, places for kids to play, and George & Maria, the owners, are brilliant. Very good food, good presentations, tasty, quickly served, very careful if you are satisfied about all. They speak very good english, and their daughters, 2 sweet girls, Katerina and Alexandra.

RESTAURANT CAFE GALINI - SOUGIA
The restaurant in Sougia on the corner of the main road / entrance to the village and the beach. There is a very extensive menu to choose from and you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner here. We have had quite a few meals here. On ur last visit we tried the Galini salad (which is fun - with a little bit of everything), the saganaki (fried cheese) and the chicken nuggets. Nothing to complain about, straight forward Greek food, nice portions. The only downside is the cappuccino with too much milk and not really hot.
Our verdict: an 8 out of 10

Lambros Taverna in Tertsa
At the beach of Tertsa there are 3 tavernas and also one more on the right side of the street that leads from the sea into the village. To us Taverna Lambros had been recommended. This taverna is named after the son of the owner. We got the impression that all the other tavernas were a bit ignored by the locals and the tourists. Everyone wanted to eat Lambros and there were even people from villages around Tertsa that came to this taverna because it is so good. In fact, the days that we stayed at Tertsa we have only eaten here, because it was great: delicious food and nice people. You can not only have lunch and dinner here, but they are also open early in the mornings for breakfast. The dishes are spicy and have much flavor. We have therefore tried everything: spinach-cakes, feta saganaki (fried feta cheese), lamb chops, shrimp saganaki (flambéed shrimp) and green beans. The Greek salad consists of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, an outing, olives, feta and herbs. At Lambros they use fresh products and herbs. The bread is nice and fresh too.
Our verdict: a 9.5 from 10

MOURATIS RESTAURANT - TSOUTSOUROS
Mouratis Taverna in Tsoutsouros, in the south of the island of Crete, is situated at the beach. We once stayed overnight here, because on top of the taverna they rent out some very nice apartments. There is a small menu here with simple food and the view is off course to die for. Normally we pick something like and ommetlette special (with ham, french fries, tomato and paprika), a Greek salad (tomato, cucumber, fêta cheese, paprika, fresh herbs and olives). The food is good and inexpensive. On the other hand the bread is not always fresh and there is no good coffee (just nescafé).
Our verdict: an 8 out of 10

Akrogiali Taverna - Xerokampos
Taverna next to the main beach of Xerokampos. We ordered the chefs salad (beet roots, cheese, ham, egg, tomato, cucumber, lettuce), sfaka with cheese (ommelette with feta cheese), tzaziki and cappuccino. No real complaints. The tzaziki was a bit tasteless though and the waiter didn't make a very happy impression.
Our verdict: a 7,5 out of 10
