Recommendations

Well, several people now have asked me to create of a list of my own fic recommendations, so naturally, being me, I had to go and overdo it. ~_^ But here's a (rather large) list of some of the best stuff out there. Also, keep in mind that I've been writing almost non-stop for a year now, so I'm sure a lot of the good stories out there have slipped right by me, i.e. this is not, in any way, an all-encompassing list of the many fine stories out there. Most of them are also Buffy/Spike (since I have a preference for that couple), but there are some other good Spike/Other stories listed in their own category as well. Also, I don't include ratings here, but if you read my stuff, I assume you're all mature enough to read the stories here. Please do pay attention to any disclaimers the authors may include, however.

If you've got any fics that you'd like to recommend to me, there's a little form at the bottom of the page. If you yourself have been recced and would like to put up a plaque to that effect, I've made a bunch for you to choose from here. So, on with the recs... Note: All links open in separate windows.

Authors

In order to economize on what is already a long list, I've only allowed three stories by any given author in the categories below. However, because I absolutely love everything that some authors write, here's an author list where I would recommend reading all their stuff, not just the stories listed below. ~_^

Echidna: A great weaver of intricate plots and believeable character development. Echidna's stories are always surprising, engrossing, and each one seems to be better than the last.

Eurydice: Eurydice writes amazing epic stories, full of romance, plot, heartfelt characterization, and vivid scenery. Every new story she writes is guaranteed to be at the top of my must-read list.

Jypzrose: My own personal fiction role model. ~_^ Jypz writes all kinds of stories, from fun and lighthearted to some of the most grimly accurate views of the human psyche out there. She writes everything, and she writes it well.

Kallysten: Kallysten's stories have the some of most engrossing characterization I've even seen. She seemlessly flows in and out of the minds of her characters in a beautiful, easy-flowing writing style that instantly draws you in.

Nautibitz: Everyone's heard of Nauti, right? Her stories are fun, funny, and have some of the steamiest sex scenes out there. Definitely one of the best authors to read for a good Spuffy pick-me-up.

Saber Shadowkitten: I'm not sure since I'm (comparatively) new to fandom, but I think Saber might've invented the Spuffy genre. ~_^ She's literally written hundreds of Spuffy fics, mostly set in earlier seasons. She doesn't write anymore, but that doesn't mean you should skimp on the classics. ^_^

Sagas

Long, involved stories that focus on the development of relationship Buffy and Spike's relationship.

"Baby Steps" by Kallysten - A response to one of my own challenges. Buffy rejected Spike, got pregnant, and is now a single mother. Spike returns, along with the sparks between them...only now both Buffy and Spike are afraid to admit their feelings. Told in Kally's typical lovely prose, alternating between Buffy and Spike's POVs.

"Black Satin Voices" by Eurydice - Willow is kidnapped, and Buffy and Spike head to New Orleans to rescue her. A vivid location piece that takes a good, hard look at Buffy and Spike's growing feelings in this alternate S5 piece. As usual, the plot is engrossing and the romance even more so.

"The Blood Remembers" by Meredith - An amazingly different look at the history of the Slayer. Meredith's story has everything a good reader should ever need - lovely Spuffiness, unique and creative plot, and a worldview that neatly blurs white and black into the shades of gray I so admire in a Spuffy writer. An excellent novel.

The Challenge Series: "Extinguishing Flames" & "Three Coins of Fate" by Kumi - One of the most original Spuffy writers out there. Kumi's series follows a complex and ever-evolving relationship between our bleached pair throughout three separate adventures, each more spell-binding than the last. A series of beautiful word-imagery and steamy love scenes, intermingled with exciting adventures.

"Charms of the Clarion" by Eurydice - OK, no matter what I say about this story, nothing can convey how wonderful it is. The premise: The Watcher's Council hires the Scoobies to fly out to Scotland and help close up a rupture to the Underworld. However, this story is so much more than that. It combines descriptions so vivid you can actually see the highlands, with one of the most diabolical villains out there, along with one of the most believable progressions of the Spuffy relationship I've ever seen. Definitely one of my all-time faves. I refuse to talk to anyone who hasn't read this story. ~_^

The Childe & Sire Saga: "His Childe", "Her Sire", "Their Soul", & "Whose Destiny?" by Kallysten - Kallysten's great masterwork. After "As You Were", Buffy falls ill and Spike sires her. This series follows Buffy's first initial anger at being a (souled) vampire, through her conflicted feelings about Angel and Spike, to her finally accepting Spike as a lover...then a sire, then... Well, Kally has a seemingly endless repertoire of emotional and physical battles for our pair to fight, each making them both stronger and bringing them closer together. One of the all-time greats of the Spuffy genre.

"Dancing Lessons" by the DL Writing Staff - I'm really not that die-hard a redemptionist. Plus, I usually avoid reading round-robins like the plague. This story breaks both those barriers. In occurs in an alternate S5, where Spike persists in aiding the battle against Glory and... Well, just read it. Lots of nice Spuffiness. *WIP*

"Divine Madness" by Laure Alexander - An alternate S3 where Spike returns to Sunnydale and sets about making himself master of the Hellmouth once more. Only this time, he wants Buffy in his bed. Laure's hot kinky (and sometimes BDSM) sex scenes combine with her elaborate description of Spike's vampire life and customs to make this one of the most original reads out there. *WIP*

The Game Series: "Welcome to the Jungle", "The Dance", "The Shadows Breathe", "Nothing Else Matters", "Journey to the Mind", "Conversation Kills", & "Master of Puppets" by Saber Shadowkitten - In Saber's greatest series (in my humble opinion ~_^), Buffy and Spike get pulled into the jungle in a series of tournaments and, well...steamy sex abounds. A fun premise and a great series of stories for anyone in the mood for a light-hearted Spuffy pick-me-up.

"Getaway" by Cousinjean - Spike kidnaps Buffy after 'As You Were' and they hang out in a motel room for the weekend. Sounds fun, right? This story is a wonderful combination of the dark (don't worry it all turns out all right), to the downright hilarious, to one of the sweetest reconciliations ever written.

"The Great Importance of Being Alive" by Enigmatic Blue - An AU where Spike becomes human. Now, I'm normally not a big fan of human!Spike fics, but even I'll make an exception for this one. Enigmatic Blue does a lovely job showing Spike's adjustment to his new 'handicap' and how the Scooby Gang react. Not to mention she describes one of the most believable developments of the Spuffy relationship out there.

"Green Card" by Ripe Wicked Plum - Ah, a Plummie classic. In an AU S4 Spike's going to be deported, and the only way for him to get his green card and stay in the country is to marry Buffy. Yup, it's exactly the recipe for fun, humor, and romance that it sounds like. Wins my own personal award for Funniest Wedding Ever, plus the scenes with the interviewer from immigration... Well, everyone simply has to read this one.

"High Stakes" by Chelle - Buffy and Spike are placing a series of bets, and the ante just keeps getting steamier and steamier. Funny and sensual all at once, this is definitely one of Chelle's best.

NEW"I am the Walrus" by Speaker-to-Customers - I almost don't know what to do with this story, because it has drama, romance, and even some angst moments, too. But, through it all, I was laughing my ass off because of one thing: In S5, instead of making the Key into Dawn, the monks make it a walrus. *cracks up* Walrus-friendship and walrus-bonding follow. The walrus brings people together. It is a happy walrus and, damn, is a walrus a hard thing to protect when Glory comes into town. Also, to anyone who's a fan of the Beatles, this story has so many hilarious song references, you'll laugh the whole way through. I did. Seriously, folks, it's a fic about a walrus and it's brilliant. *writes a sentence she never would have imagined writing* ~_^

The Illuminati Series: "Getting Pumped" & "The Illuminati" by Kaz - "Getting Pumped" started as a UST-fest where Buffy and Spike meet in a gas station, snark at each other, and get stuck on a 'date' for the night. It's fun and funny and sexy. And then it evolves into so much more. "Getting Pumped" becomes a unique look into the seedy demon underworld that Spike belongs to and Buffy's forced to face, until in "The Illuminati"... Well, this story just blew my mind away. Most original plot ever. Most jaw-dropping ending *EVER*. You can't possibly believe it until you read it.

"Impossibly Delightful Flesh" by Sadbhyl - A demonic accident causes Buffy, Spike, Xander, Anya, and Tara to all swap genders. Humor naturally ensues, as does a very real look at how change of gender changes (or doesn't change) identity and relationships with loved ones. A fun, lighter story where fem!Spike just steals the show. A brilliant and well-written piece that features all the BtVS cast.

"In Heat" by Nautibitz - Without doubt, the hottest series ever written. There are demons in Sunnydale that make Buffy hot and horny. For Spike. Great idea, ne? ~_^ Nauti goes all out on her trademark hilarious innuendoes and inspired sex scenes. Fun, fluffy, and oh-so-sexy. If you read only one Spuffy story ever, this should be it.

"Inhuman Hearts" by Echidna - An Echidna classic. A nasty ritual involving a heart sacrifice combined with the arrival of my all-time favorite OC, a being named "It", are just a few of the distinctive features that give this novel one of the best plots out there. The Spuffiness is top-notch, of course, and this story manages to perfectly combine lighter, more humorous moments with its gripping plot. A must read.

"Innocence Found" by Spike's Heart - Buffy and Spike get turned into kids. Yeah, it's been done before, but this version has the elements of believability and sweetness (without being overly sappy) that so many fics of this genre lack. This fic is rife with humor, including everyone's worst nightmares in babysitting, and Spike's Heart uses the trust among the children Buffy and Spike to build up a nice relationship between their (eventually ~_^) adult selves.

NEW"It's Got To Be Perfect" by Speaker-to-Customers - Speaker's take on my Fic Challenge #1. Buffy makes a wish, turns Spike human, and... Well, I'll just say Buffy learns a lot about herself and what she really wants, and - fuck - this fic makes me cry like a baby at parts and laugh my ass off at others.

"Journeys" by Mary - Mary's version of events after Buffy's death in 'The Gift'. Her first book follows Spike's grieving process in heart-wrenching detail, while her second deals with the effects of Buffy's resurrection and Willow's abuse of magic. She paints a lovely emotional picture of Spike's inner self and a very true depiction of how Buffy and Spike's relationship could (and should ~_^) have gone. *WIP*

"Life in Sunnydale" by Caro - After Xander ditches Anya at the altar, she leaves town and puts Spike and Tara in charge of the Magic Box. This story follows their day-to-day lives, hesitant friendships, and Buffy's slow realization that there is more to Spike than what she had seen previously in their relationship. A light, touching story. *WIP*

"Life Serial Revisited" by Tiana - Tiana fills in the gap during Spike and Buffy's night on the town in 'Life Serial'. This story is fun, sexy, and a humorous romp for anyone in the mood for something light. *WIP*

"Necessary Evils" by Barb C - In this story, Barb gives Buffy and Spike the chance that Marti refused them. It deals with similar themes to S6 - the aftereffects of Buffy's resurrection and Willow's dangerous magical leanings - but in a way that's mature and more *ahem* sophisticated than what we were dealt in S6. Barb's not afraid to handle serious glitches in Buffy and Spike's relationship, as well as philosophical differences, but what she ultimately portrays are two characters that have grown up through their experiences together. This is S6 as it should have been.

"Nineteen Hours" by Annie Sewell-Jennings - Okay, just for the record, I can't stand souled Spike or human Spike. This story has both, yet I still love it. That shows you how great it really is. Annie's (rare) fluff piece narrates 19 hours in a motel room after 'Chosen' where Buffy has found a recently-human Spike returned from the dead. It really is almost entirely fluff, but it's fluff that everyone needed after the finale.

"One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Isabelle - A true masterpiece. After S5, Buffy is resurrected...only it's 100 years in the future. The only one left to guide her through this future world is Spike, but he's spent the last century trying to recover from her death. Isabelle creates an incredible, full futureverse and portrays her new Buffy/Spike dynamic in a revealing light that leads, ultimately, to the Spuffiness we all know and love. This story is also remarkable for the webs of conspiracies that hang around the new world she's created. To my mind, the best future fic ever written.

"Out of My Head" by AJ Hofacre - What if Spike had gotten his chip out in 'Out of My Mind'? This story follows Buffy and Spike's growing feelings for each other in a S5 AU. It's full of hot bites, fun UST, and ultimately smutty, wonderful Spuffiness. An enjoyable look at how a relationship could progress between our Slayer and an unmuzzled vamp.

"Practically Perfect" by Kallysten - Another response to one of my challenges. Buffy makes a wish to change Spike for the better, only...well, there are always consequences, aren't there? Kally's story was more than I ever could've hoped for, blending her usual spot-on characterization with wry humor and some of the most touching Spuffy scenes ever written.

"Pushing an Elephant Up the Stairs" by Pepperlandgirl - Kantayra's reccing a S7 fic? Has the world come to an end? Nope, this story is just that good. For one, it deals with Spike's soulless redemption, and in a way that's quite unique...given that it's S7 and all. Pepper's got some amazingly hot stuff, mixed in with a psychological storyline that makes me constantly ask, "God, why couldn't S7 have been more like this?"

"Rhapsody in Oil" by Eurydice - Yup, Eurydice again. In this one, Buffy and Spike get sucked into a painting and are trapped in normal identities within, working at a less-than-reputable nightclub. Danger stalks them as the Scooby Gang tries to unravel the mystery of the painting, eventually pulling everyone inside for the climax. It's another of those incredibly unique Eurydice plots, and like all the others it's done exceptionally well. That, and the Spuffiness is nothing to sneeze at. ~_^

"Stalk Her" by Jypzrose - That rarest of all treats: Buffy faces a nasty new Big Bad that's killing innocent women...only this one is human. This story captures the best of the serial-killer thriller genre while exploring how the human psyche can become just as warped - or even more so - than the 'stock' demon villains of the show. This story also has one of the most complex and believable portrayals of Buffy and Spike's growing feelings for each other.

"Sum of Her Parts" by Sadbhyl - Savvy's responses to one of my challenges, this story could well me seen as the converse of 'Double Spiked'. Namely: one Spike; two Buffys. ~_^ Yes, it's got hot sex beyond imagining, but it's also got a wonderful look at the contrasts between human!Buffy and slayer!Buffy that show all the characters in new and illuminating ways.

"Thrall" by Chase - Chase's look at just how Buffy does come back 'wrong' in S6. This is a story full of honest characterization and slow, natural development. Her plot line (as it's been revealed so far) is superb and unique. The only fault I can find with this story is that she's so slow to update. ^_^ *WIP*

"Twining Vines" by Echidna - Set after Buffy's S6 break up, but this time with a catch: A mysterious young woman appears, supposedly to 'help' Spike. Add to that the fact that universes seem to be crossing over, and you've got yourself another Echidna classic. Jealously, misunderstandings, sweet reconciliations - this one's got it all.

"The Underground" by Jypzrose - After years of separation, Buffy tracks down Spike again to help her train for an arena-style competition where she'll be fighting to the death, with Dawn's life on the line. This tale takes a good look at a more mature Buffy and Spike down the road and rebuilds the fire between them in a tantalizing way. Some of the best UST out there, with a very nice resolution. ~_^

"Wet and Wild" by Chelle - I always forget about this story because I see the title and assume it's just a PWP. Don't let yourself fall into the same trap. ^_^ This story actually has one of the most complex plots out there. It takes place in an alternate S4 where the Initiative re-kidnaps Spike and Buffy goes undercover to save him. This one features an entirely different look at Maggie Walsh, Riley, and the rest of the Initiative, creating an entirely new modus operandi for the organization that is an exciting mystery to uncover.

"When Eternity Lies in the Balance" by Jericho - The end of S5 spawned a lot of Buffy-comes-back fics, but this one tops all others. Considering Buffy's death unjust, Spike undergoes the trials of Heaven to beg her to return. This story develops Spike as a strong protagonist, while at the same time waging a metaphorical war against the limitations Marti placed on him in the form of a fight against the Powers That Be themselves. Spell-binding reading.

AUs

Buffy and Spike exist in a universe like ours, where everyone's human. A new genre that is fast becoming one of the best in fandom.

"Angels in the Rain" by Mrs. Muir - Spike's a washed-up lawyer who's just been left by his wife, Dru, and Buffy's a teenage hooker. They meet up and create a mesmerizing short story about loneliness, understanding, acceptance, and love. A poignant piece.

"Anything But Ordinary" by Sweetie - How's this for a change? Spike's the popular bad boy, and Buffy's a nerdy high school girl. But then Buffy gets stuck tutoring him, and naturally our peroxide friend realizes what he's been missing out on. ~_^ One of those rare really good high school fics.

"Blast from the Past" by Zarrah - Back in high school, Buffy was popular and William was a nerd who was hopelessly in love with her. Now, at their class reunion, Buffy comes across the hottest stripper ever in a nightclub. Can you guess who? ~_^ This story is only six chapters long, yet manages to encompass some of the hottest sex out there, together with touching emotional moments.

"The Education of Buffy Summers" by SeaBlue - Buffy's the naughty schoolgirl at a private school, and Spike is the Big Bad headmaster. So amazingly hot you won't even believe it! I'm still fanning myself over this one... *WIP*

"Gravity" by Magz - Spike's a mountain-climber who's been badly injured, and Buffy's the only physical therapist that can put up with his temper tantrums. A wonderful, snark-filled romance and a fast, fun read. One of the original AU classics.

"Mad World" by Pepperlandgirl - Ah, what can I say about Pepper's fics? Pepper's AUs are truly unique, taking a look at the darker side of the human psyche, and this is one of her best. Buffy's a hooker; Spike's a corrupt cop who's using her for sex. This story is a lovely portrait of two characters so broken by their pasts that they've descended to the lowest humans can go. And, yet, this story isn't completely angsty. A lovely fic full of raw emotions that works as a lovely foil to the darkness we saw in S6.

"Mister William" by Pepperlandgirl - Spike's a high-school teacher, and Buffy's his promiscuous student. Hot, underaged sex follows along with the millions of problems and questions that arise from this illegal relationship. A good mix of all sorts of different themes and styles. (Even I can't say whether I find this fic fluffy or angsty. ~_^) Definitely a wonderful read.

NEW"More Than Strangers" by Sadbhyl - Buffy and William met for one afternoon in a cafe and have a passionate encounter in the bathroom. Afterward, Buffy returns to her husband, Angel, thinking this was a one-time thing. Until Spike shows up in her life once more. A wonderful 'affair fic' that deals heavily with Buffy's character development. Lots of wonderful, yummy smut, with just enough angst to keep the plot alive and intriguing. An excellent read.

"Pride and Prejudice" by Ripe Wicked Plum - Based loosely off the premise of the novel with the same title, Plummie's foray into the world of AU brings us many a snark-filled battle and steamy love scene between our bleached pair. Take her warnings under advisement, though, since this story does have *very* angsty parts as well as a major character death. However, the plot line ultimately parallels that of BtVS's S6 and S7 in a shocking way, providing real world light upon some of the choices Marti and her staff would like to whitewash. I stand by the ending. ^_^

"Speedway" by Jypzrose - THE AU. The one that started it all. Buffy and Spike are high school sweethearts but Spike's passion for driving race cars drives them apart, until finally they must both face what's most important to them. Now, I hate NASCAR with a passion, and I still love this story. And you will too. There's no excuse for not reading this one, folks. There's a reason it spawned a genre.

"Summer Nights" by Snarkysoul - Buffy and Spike: camp counselors at a summer camp. This story is full of fast emotional changes, misunderstandings, jealousy, love, sex - can't forget the wonderful, droolworthy sex ~_^, and much more. A fun, fast-paced read in a unique environment. *WIP*

"Take a Chance" by Witchiepoo - Several years back, Buffy and Spike had a one-night stand that changed their lives. Now, they've met up again and romance blooms. A funny story, filled with all sorts of pairings, where Buffy and Spike demonstrate one of the healthiest relationships in fandom. This story tackles real-life issues, while at the same time preserving the joie de vivre of a group of friends who, yeah, just really like sex. ~_^ *WIP*

"A Touch of Jealousy" by Echidna - Another high school fic, this one also excellent. Angel dumped Buffy; Dru dumped Spike. Now Dru and Angel are together. Buffy and Spike's response? Well, duh, pretend to get together to make Dru and Angel jealous. ~_^ The only problem is that Buffy and Spike hate each other. Or do they? A fun story of not-quite-hate turning to love with plenty of humorous side plots (Joyce thinks Spike's gay for half the novel *snicker*) to hot, hot sex (still drooling from their first time) to compromising positions (just how many times can Buffy and Spike nearly get caught before someone actively catches them?). A new classic.

"Waiting for Eternity" by Moxie - Based on the movie of the same name. In WWII, Spike's a cocky airplane pilot, and Buffy's the nurse who falls for them. Years in the future, Buffy reflects upon their lamentably, short-lived affair. This short is so sweet in the flashbacks, and so heartbreaking in the present. It makes me sob every time I read it. A very beautifully done piece.

Humor

Looking for a good laugh? These stories always have me laughing out loud within minutes.

"Amnesia!Spike" by mahaliem - *giggle* This is, quite possibly, one of the funniest things written ever. Spike gets knocked on the head during S6 and has amnesia. He proceeds to get the misimpression he's having a secret affair with Xander, learns from Buffy how 'slaying' requires gratuitious pelvis grinding, and is haunted by visions of a mysterious 'poofter'. *cracks up* Basically, everyone wants a piece of Amnesia!Spike, and it's absolutely hilarious watching our confused vamp try to decipher it all.

"Bachelor Party" by Kimi - Buffy makes Spike plan Xander's bachelor party in S6. Hilarity naturally ensues. A fun, fluffy fic that's got plenty of nice Spuffiness for everyone.

"Baywatch Saves the Day" by Ozfan - *snicker* Spike's being a whiny baby now that he's got his soul, so Buffy decides to save him using Baywatch. Sheer comedic brilliance as one would expect from Ozfan.

"Dippity-Dork" by Ozfan - Spike's got a soul now, so naturally he needs a mentor in brooding. Luckily, Angel's up to the job, complete with his vast array of hair products. Laugh out loud hilarious.

"Dust Becomes Him" by little-bit - Spike dies...sort of. Everyone holds a wake. Buffy get addicted to snorting Spike's ashes, Angel appears with the largest plot hole ever in a stroller (i.e. Connor), and Spike, naturally, insults everyone in his will. A very funny piece.

NEW"Good Things DON'T Come In Small Packages" by Meredith - *giggle snort* Buffy has some, er...disturbing nightmares that Spike doesn't have what it takes downstairs. Naturally, he corrects her of this foolish misconception. God, this fic makes me giggle...

"In An Effort To Make Everyone Equally Unhappy" by foggi - Foggi's painfully funny take on the series finale 'Chosen'. 'Cause, yeah, what were they thinking, anyway? ~_^

"Little Pink Pill" by Painbow - In S6, Buffy finds out about Angel's kid and decides she and Spike need to use precautions. Hilarity ensues. Includes the World's Funniest Use (TM) of the phrase "Cold. Dead. Seed." ~_^

"Pen Pals" by Treacle - Spike and Angel become pen pals and exchange insulting letters. It's more funny than I can ever describe. Just read it.

NEW"Queer Eye for the Straight Guy: Spike" by Mezz - The Fab Five make-over Spike so that he can win over Buffy. *giggle snort* Yes, it's amusing as all-fuck.

Season Seven Parodies: "Writing LESSONS", "Beneath Who?", "Conversations With Stupid People",  & "Bring on the Potential Killers" by foggi - Well, foggi's got parody writing down pat. She mercilessly mocks much of S7 the way it really deserves to be mocked with her astute observations.

"Season Six's Big Bad" by Meltha - Meltha has the Scooby Gang take on the real Big Bad of S6...the writers. A clever analysis of just what was so ridiculous about the plot events that season.

"Spike Lips! Lips of Spike!" by mr. monkeybottoms - Ah, monkey... For those of you that don't know, monkey is the most hilarious person ever. This story is her version of the events after 'Something Blue', in case you couldn't guess from the title. It's a Spuffy saga, of course, but it's an absolutely hysterical Spuffy saga. Be warned: It's impossible to read a monkey fic without busting your gut.

NEW"Spike's Gift" by Devil Piglet and Serpentine - The funniest way S7 could possibly have started. A beautiful mockery of so much that is just plain fucked in the Jossverse.

"Spike's Not Quite Evil Night" by mahaliem - S7 Spike's in the precarious position of trying to be "not quite evil". Humorous pranks and homoerotic comments ensue. A funny piece.

"The Summit" by Valerie - Valerie's wonderful satire. Buffy and Spike come to discover a clandestine affair between George 'Dubya' Bush and Vladimir Putin as well as a sinister *snicker* scheme behind it. Biting political commentary combined with humorous Spuffiness, what more could anyone want?

"Sweet Submission" by mommanerd - Andrew's writing fanfic. About Buffy and Spike. NC17 fanfic. And he's published it, so the whole town's reading it. And then Buffy and Spike find out about it. Brilliant and too, too funny.

"This Messy Life" by Kalima - Dawn catches Buffy and Spike going at it in S6. She's scarred for life, of course, and Buffy and Spike both try to, er, give her the 'birds and bees' lecture with humorous results. Plus, Dawn gets the last laugh on Buffy. ~_^

"Twenty Women, One Shower, You Do the Math" by Prophet of Doom - Heh, another one of my challenge responses. Basically, during S7 everyone accidently walks in on each other in the shower and goofiness ensues. The natural result of having so many women in one house and only one bathroom. ~_^

"The Wacky Adventures of Spike and Buffybot" by mr. monkeybottoms - The. Greatest. monkey-fic. Ever. Buffybot is hilarious enough on her own, but in monkey's hands...well, it's dangerous. The premise: Warren created Buffybot back in S4's 'Where the Wild Things Are', Spike accidently activates Buffybot's sex programming, and...monkey funniness. And, for those who are freakishly opposed to Spike/Bot pairings, don't worry, it's very much Buffy/Spike. Everyone go read this story. Now. Oh, and read her new sequel "The Wacky Adventures of Buffy and Spikebot" while you're at it. Sure to be on this rec list as soon as I get off my lazy ass and link it.

"William Summers, Vampire Hunter" by  PrettyPoppy - Hmm, I can't even describe this story without giving away the joke. But it's funny. And sweet and fluffy, as well.

"Who Needs A Hug?" by Ozfan - Set after 'Beneath You'. Semi-divine-being Cordy finally cures Buffy of that stick up her ass. Oh, yes, it's another hilarious satire from Ozfan...

"Who's Been Shaggin in My Bed?" by mommanerd - Spike finds out that Xander and Anya had their *ahem* reconciliation in his bed. He is not a happy vamp. Andrew records the entire thing for posterity. All funny, funny stuff.

Smut

Hot and steamy Spuffy lovin'. What more could a horny fangirl ask for? ~_^

"As in 'Recent'" by Nautibitz - It turns out Buffy and Spike were 'Sculdering' it all through S7. I want to believe, Nauti! ~_^ Hot, short, and sweet.

"Candles. Foreplay." by Laure Alexander - C'mon, everyone wants Spike to live up to that tantalizing promise from 'Wrecked', right? Well, Laure's got it for you...

"Chlorine" by Jinx - Buffy and Spike. Wet. Biting. Wicked hot story. ^_^

"Clearance" by Treacle - This story is pretty much two combined. The first part is a lovely UST piece where Buffy and Spike get locked together in an Initiative storage room overnight; the second is post-Faith-in-Buffy's-body steamy sex. Both are excellent, hot reads.

"Dedication" by Ripe Wicked Plum - Buffy and Spike doing it in a church and traumatizing the priest. Have I mentioned lately that I love Plummie? This story is why.

"Heat Wave" by Zero - Sweltering heat and cool vampire, what's an overheated Slayer to do? Why, have even steamier sex, of course! ^_^

"Humping Like Bunnies" by Saber Shadowkitten - Buffy and Spike get transformed into rabbits and, uh, do what rabbits do. Then they get turned back to Buffy and Spike and do what Buffy and Spike do. ~_^ Nauti's currently writing a series off of this one.

"Lost In You" by Mary - Possibly the sweetest Spuffy lovemaking scene out there. This short one-shot has terribly intimate emotions combined with an amazingly evokative sex scene.

"Perfectly Oh-So-Sexy" by Saber Shadowkitten - The hottest thing that will ever, EVER be written. Buffy films Spike taking a shower. God, this fic makes me all wet just thinking about it... ^_^

"The Question Game" by Kimberly - After Buffy returns in S6, she hangs out in Spike's crypt and they ask each other questions. And Buffy's get more and more sexual. Hot and emotionally compelling all at once.

"Reasons" by Zero - Also after Buffy's S6 return. Buffy needs some reasons for living. Spike's definitely up to the job of showing her. ~_^

"The Sweet Spot" by Rabid - A wonderful, smutty S6 fic where Buffy and Spike play with gender roles in every way possible. ~_^ Unbelievably hot and original. A definite must-read.

"Tooth and Nail" by KJ Draft - To my mind, this is exactly what happened between 'Smashed' and 'Wrecked'. There's hot sex, full of BDSM and Buffy and Spike's own dysfunctional relationship. Maybe not the prettiest picture, but definitely the most realistic one and still a fun, fabulous read.

Dark/Angst

Feeling up for a walk on the darker side? Ready to handle character death, hopeless one-sided love, and other tearjerkers? Then check these heartwrenching stories out. (Kleeneces are a must.)

"Bleach, Hair Gel, and a Shiny New Soul" by Kumi - A heart-wrenching piece by one of the great Spuffy masters, entailing Spike's trials after he gets the soul. Has some touching Spuffy moments, but in the end the tragedy of this piece will leave you speechless.

"Ketchup Blood" by Kalima - Buffy and Spike after a night together have the requisite breakfast at Denny's. A dark, somewhat depressing look at the dysfunctional relationship between the two in this seemingly innocuous setting.

(Yes, I will get more up soon. I just have to wait until I'm in one of those really angsty moods to go search down my faves.)

Short Stuff

Random stuff that didn't quite fit in any of the other categories. All great reads, though.

NEW"Black and White, and the Grey In Between" by Passionfish - A fic which explores the idea of Buffy and Spike joining forces against Angelus in S2 in a different light. Written in a series of drabbles of alternating POVs, this fic runs the gamut from angst to fluff and back again. A good, quick, light read.

NEW"Buffy vs. the Soul" by Kelso - Buffy takes Spike in after 'Beneath You' and ultimately decides that that annoying soul has to go. This fic is hilarious, and I was tempted to stick it in the humor section, but it's got a lot of other nice elements, too. So humor, parody, and characterization rolled into one. Always a good combo. ~_^

"Close Encounters" by Nautibitz - A series of short encounters between our blonde pair throughout S4. Much UST and innuendo abound, along with lots of funny, clever, Nauti moments. ~_^

"In the Know" by AJ Hofacre - Dawn spies on Buffy and Spike arguing during S6 and finds out about their relationship. A great Dawn POV with very in character sadness on the parts of Buffy and Spike. Feels very true to the season.

NEW"Only Sometimes Blue" by Megan - After the memory spell ends in 'Something Blue', the demon community of Sunnydale takes personal offense to Buffy rejecting the proposal of a respected member of the demon community - Spike - and shanghais the two of them into a shotgun wedding. Amazingly, this premise kinda works. This story is funny, with entertaining dialogue and hot smut. Very fun and light.

"Super Food World" by Valerie - Buffy and Spike go grocery shopping. No one in the history of the world can summarize this one because that description, while accurate, is sadly lacking. This story takes place in S6 and deals with all Buffy and Spike's emotional issues from Buffy's financial and parental woes to the difficulty of their relationship together. One of the best stories ever written.

"Where It Stops, Nobody Knows" by Sweetiegrrl - A 'deleted' scene from S6's birthday episode, 'Older And Far Away'. The party guests play Spin the Bottle. Funny kiss pairings add humor to this story, while sweet Spuffy moments top it off. If only they'd left this part in the episode. ~_^

"Who Reflects Me" by little-bit - A sweet, fluffy, and - yes - smutty fic, set post-BtVS and AtS. Buffy and Spike are together in Paris, and they deal with mysterious deaths, while showing just how wonderfully their relationship has turned out. A lovely little piece that soothes many a hard feeling from the finales.

"Why It's Never A Date" by foggi - A short S7 fic where Buffy compares her relationships between Wood and Spike. A touching and serious B/S piece.

Spike/Other Fiction

Yes, I do enjoy other Spike pairings. Pretty much all. So, if you're willing to read about Spike with someone other than Buffy, here are some classics. Organized alphabetically by pairing:

Spike/Angel(us):

"Fragmented" by Mirax Terrik - Spike/Angel. A dark look at how Spike's appearance on AtS's S5 could've gone. Angel and Wesley deal with a crazed, 'fragmented' version of Spike, and find themselves drawn in to his torment. Dark and complex, with riveting characterizations like only Mirax can do. *WIP* (I'm pretty sure there's actually no way to get access to this fic at the moment. A pity...)

"Hard Time" by Magz - Spike/Angel, serious hardcore NC17. An AU story when Spike and Angel end up prison cellmates and Angel teaches Spike's about certain pleasures to be found in male-only company. A funny and sexy story. *WIP* (Magz has decided to hide this fic from the world forever. *sigh*)

"Naked Eyes" by DeAnna Zankich - Spike/Angel, with a bit of Anya voyeurism thrown in. Anya watches Spike and Angel have sex. A truly unique and interesting perspective.

"Silent Screams" by Kallysten - Spike/Angel. A dark look far into the future where the final apocalypse in Sunnydale went horribly wrong. With all others dead, Spike and Angel walk through a lonely world, where their only hope seems to be each other. If only they hadn't abandoned each other...

"William" by Mirax Terrik - Spike/Angel. Set far in the future, Spike had thought he was the only one to survive the old Scooby days. That is, until he meets a young man who looks exactly like Angel, but calls himself 'William'. Torn between escaping his past and seeking it, Spike starts up an affair with William, full of the dark, turbulent emotions one would expect from a good Mirax fic. *WIP* (Another one that I'll bet is hidden at the moment. What is it about the Spangel stories? :P)

Spike/Anya:

"And Now There's Three" by Phoenix*Moon - Spike&Tara&Anya friendship, with some romance at the end. Set in S6, Spike, Tara, and Anya - all jilted by their lovers - get an apartment together. This story follows the development of friendship between the three, through Spike's realization that he's fallen in love with someone other than Buffy... An excellent piece of non-romantic relationship development - something seriously lacking in many fics today.

"A Couple of Ex-Demons Just Sitting around Talking" by Kalima - Spike&Anya friendship. Anya finds out she's pregnant with Xander's kid. Unfortunately, Spike's was the nearest shoulder to cry on at the time. A poignant and touching conversation between the two that feels very real.

Spike/Drusilla:

"And Never Die" by D.M. Evans - Spike/Dru. In the 1960s, our vamp pair are at Woodstock where they meet up with Darla for some fun, and end up getting the last laugh on grandmother.

"Baby, I Can Drive Your Car" by Gileswench - Spike/Dru. The story of how Spike first got the DeSoto. A funny and entertaining vamp piece.

"The Pause That Refreshes" by D.M. Evans - Spike/Dru. Spike and Dru kill an annoying door-to-door saleswoman. *snicker* Okay, so there's more to it than that. Another of Dana's great Spike-and-Dru-through-history pieces.

"Rain On Dust" by Rabid - Spike/Dru. All right, so Rabid says this will eventually be Spike/Buffy, and I believe her. But, for now, it's Spike's account of what happened with Dru in Prague. This story has an amazing view of a vampire's life, and shamelessly recounts Spike's existence prior to Sunnydale. A gripping read. *WIP*

"Wishes On Her Eyes" by D.M. Evans - Spike/Dru. In the 1920s, our vamp pair are involved in a plot to turn an heiress but then get caught up in a tangle with the murder investigation, some nosy humans, and finally an awfully familiar-looking Vengeance Demon. Another great period piece.

Spike/Fred:

"The Ghost and Ms. Burkle" by Kat Leon - Spike/Fred. An AU of AtS S5 where Fred takes ghost-Spike home with her to try to find a cure. A sweet and involved fic that shows how these two characters just fit sometimes.

Spike/Giles:

"The Essential Spike" by Jenny - Spike/Giles. Okay, I'm actually advocating Spike/Giles slash. Serious, NC17 Spike/Giles slash. Now, I don't usually read Spike/Giles slash, but this is so good, I not only read it but recommended it. It's actually quite touching and believable emotionally. I'm still very, very impressed.

Spike/Harmony:

"Card Sharp" by Caro - Spike&Harmony sort-of-enemies fic. Okay, so I sort of cheated. This story could probably fit in the Buffy/Spike category since it's an aside in the "Life In Sunnydale" series. But this short fic is about Spike and Harmony meeting up in a mall and, well...Harmony's hilarious as always. Plus, there need to be more Harmony fics out there. A fun, quick read.

Spike/Ho-Biscuit:

"Bit Parts" by MintWitch - Spike/Ho-biscuit. You ever wonder just who that Ho-biscuit was that Spike brought to Xander and Anya's wedding in 'Hell's Bells' was? Well, this story chronicles how she met Spike and her own feelings throughout their brief affair. One of the best bit character pieces ever written and not Mary-Sueish in the slightest.

Spike/Illyria:

"Illyria and the Magic Potion" by Spike'N'Dru - Spike/Illyria. Harmony's jealous of all the time Spike's been spending with Illyria. Illyria discovers the evilness of Starbucks. Spike finds himself subject to a sexy offer he really can't refuse. A funny short piece.

"To Un-Live and Die in LA" by Spike'N'Dru - Spike/Illyria. Spike and Illyria become involved on AtS, just as Buffy comes back into town. Spike finds himself torn between the two relationships in his life.

Spike/Tara:

"Quiet as a Mouse" by Miranda - Spike/Tara. In order to save Spike from the Initiative, Tara removes Spike's chip. Then, years later, after she's had plenty of time to fantasize about them, they meet again...

"Soft" by Julia the Younger - Spike/Tara. Okay, there's a reason this is the Spike/Tara fic out there. Julia's story is a wonderful tale of friendship and companionship turned ultimately to love. She manages to make this pairing seem entirely realistic while keeping the essences of Spike and Tara's personalities as well. Beautifully done.

"Those Left Behind" by Jypzrose - Spike/Tara. Only Spike, Tara, and Dawn survive the apocalypse in Sunnydale. Broken by their friends' deaths, they escape on a cross-country road trip, just surviving at first, but then slowly learning to live again and become a real family.

Spike/Xander:

NEW"Red Right Hand" by Wiseacress - Spike/Xander. Spike turns Xander. Because he wants to watch TV and stuff. Xander is the most annoying childe in the history of the universe. Which is OK, because Spike is the most annoying sire in the history of the universe. This fic is, seriously, one of the funniest things I have ever read. And, amazingly, Spike and Xander are both perfectly in character. A side-splitting fic that perfectly captures the goofiness of these two characters. *WIP*

"This Year's Vamp" by China Shop - Spike/Xander. A funny, goofy fic where Spike and Xander swap bodies. I'm not a big Spander fan, but this fic makes me giggle like crazy.

You Recommend

Is there some story where you just went, "Damn, I can't believe she didn't recommend that!"? Well, I haven't read all the stories out there, you know. If you think there's something great that I'm missing out on, by all means let me know. I want to read more good fiction, too. ^_^ (Note: If I've already recommended three stories by any one author, I won't list more for space reasons. You can recommend that I put that author in the Authors section, though. I also won't accept any Buffy/Other fiction - just my personal preferrence.)
